I don't really know what to make of it. Yes the largest market will be consoles. Thats obvious, thats where the money is. Perhaps the driving will just be best suited to a gamepad/controller.

I find this incredibly offensive. First id created modern gaming through the PC, then they start subsidizing their best franchises (Quake 4, this new Wolfenstein, and even RTCW), then they sell out, and now this. After this, I've turned my back completely on id. Shame on you.

Carmack would still be working for Softdisk if it weren't for us, nice one John. So will Doom 4 have regen health and a cover system ?

My biggest concern about the game actually. Even though I almost always play racing games with gamepad/wheel, I'd definitely prefer to not swap controls in this game between driving and FPS (kb+m). Hopefully they at least put enough thought and effort into the PC version that the driving is well-manageable with kb+m. Driving was implemented well in HL2 for example, but Rage will obviously place a much greater emphasis on that gameplay element. It'll be interesting.

Yes. It's one thing to port to consoles, but to tailor the game for consoles first instead of PC is slapping all of us who put them where they are. ID hasn't done this before to my knowledge.

Pretty much every big game iD has made, has been on consoles. But the difference is that all of them were made with PC as the lead platform, and later ported to the consoles.

Now this game is made for consoles first, and the PC version is the port.

I consider it pretty offensive, considering that iD would not exist without PC gamers.

welcome to the modern age of PC gaming where everything is becoming more and more console focused. Lucasarts, Epic, Ubisoft, Crytek , Microsoft and now Id are shifting their priorities to the consoles...360 mostly.

Yes, but there hasn't been an ID game geared to consoles before, it has always been PC first and then ported over to consoles. This is very different.

Not suprising in the slightest, even for id. Console's are where the money's at, the economy's currently down the sh*tter, why wouldn't they make a console focused game. That's what I would do. Hey as long as it's a fun game and the PC version is up to par i'm happy.

From what I read sometime back, Rage was supposed to be designed for consoles and Doom 4 for PC . anyways, doesn't really matters that much to me seeing mediocre ID's previous two games have been and how they like to constantly ramble more and do not do much

Its not rocket science to create a PC game, the controls a down to a fact with id, so doing controls is no problem the engine has been designed with the PC in mind, the only reason its more geared towards consoles is because its the first game developed in house by themselves that they are really taking care of..

I mean really now?, whats the hardest thing in making the PC version?, nothing!, the controls make themselves and the engine will run much better on the PC anyways, so i don't see what everyone's crying about "Boo Hoo id left us", at least they didn't do us like EPIC..now that's a failure.

God, its not like RAGE will feature perks, or auto aim, Regen health is a little weird but considering this is a id game there's going to be alot of challange.

At least we are getting it. They could be like other developers and just skip the pc version. It doesn't seem like a big deal anyways.

Yes but as I have mentioned before this isn't simply them porting it to consoles like in the past, this is ID focusing on the console version and making it the primary version.

EVERY MULTIPLATFORM GAME IS CONSOLE FOCUSED "The PC version will offer higher resolutions, more anti-aliasing and faster texture page-in times, but the three versions are essentially the same. " See? Did they say they gonna wreck the pc version? no it will be dumbed down with console control scheme better graphics and propably terrible optimazation.... just like every multiplatform out there, so whats this fuzz about?

Every multiplatform game ? F.E.A.R. is console focused ? It was on PC way before it was ported to consoles and it is considered multiplatform now because it is on more than one platform.

The game will have veichles. Of course the controls will be more console oriented. It seems like common sense that it would be easier to race with dual analog than KB+M. Doesn't mean it will be bad on the keyboard, it just won't be as satisfying. I really do not see the big deal about this.

Very true. And pc to console ports are still pretty playable on consoles even with the controller and all. But when its designed for console and ported to pc, the pc version just feels terribly "off". I guess thats the word I'll use. Look at FEAR 1 ported to consoles, still pretty decent. FEAR 2 console to pc port. PC version just sucked, no lean keys killed it for me. And the clunky cover flipping mechanic.

what a meaningless repy is this? Seriously you said it yourself it was ported to the consoles... but every game that comes out simutanely for all 3 platforms ot it comes out later on pc is basicly console focused apartf from games like hl2 and cod 4 that have pc roots.

No need to remind you that many console games that also appeared on PC controlled just FINE. BioShock, Gears of War, Halo, Fable, GTA IV - only at the top of my head - control wonderfully on PC M&KB and were also built for console controllers.

Im mainly a PC gamer and no I don't like the way these new ID games are console focused but at the end of the day ID need to make money. D3, Q4 were both pirated to hell on the PC. So would you rather ID make PC focused games and loose tons of money and probably go under one day or make consolised games for both platforms. I think the PC community is partially to blame for ID's shift towards consoles, but anyway I won't be buying any of their new games other then R.A.G.E, might rent doom 4 though......... Anyway ID haven't made a good game since Quake 3 so I really couldnt care less.

A little respect would be nice, John.

Port all you want. But dont tell us, after years of mutual benefit between PC gamers and Id, that youre going to focus primarily on consoles and that a controller is "critical" to the game.

Bit disappointing, what worries me slightly is that Tim Willits makes everybody use the 360 controller, as though because it's the "limiting" device it should be used by all. To me that seems terrible unfair, at the least they should have a few guys using mouse so it's more indicative of their complete audience from start to finish. Seems silly to wait until the end and then fix any problems they have when they can fix minor issues as they arise during development. That to me is much fairer.
