Catalyst 7.7 has arrived - bring on 24xAA

Hey guys,

not really a HARDWARE thing, but theres not a software forum so dontB***h :P.

Catalyst 7.7 drivers are out, and for those who have a HD2900, we can finally do 24xAA. Its in the CCC, theres a new option called Edge Filter, and when putting on 8xAA, you can now do 24x Samples. i just did it in Lost Planet, looks sweeeeeeet. drivers are way better than 7.5 or 7.6 IMO.

So ATi finally got 24x CFAA out the door?

Hope some sites do some updated benchmarks to the GTX/ULTRA.

are you playing the DX9 or DX10 version?

if DX10, set the shadow quality to High...i'm sure ur FPS will drop to around 30-40, which is still good.

with 4xAA and all settings to high (including Shadow Quality), I only got around 15-25fps, with shadow quality to medium, it went up to 30-50fps

i play it on 1680x1050 with settings all maxed cept shadows (cant coz not dx10) and i put 24xAA on in CCC. get about 40fps avg. i have a hd2900 1gb card. game just runs smooth anyway.

note to all hd2900 users, not sure if i said this before, but make sure if u are experiencing real low performance, you put the AA settings on max in CCC outside the game. sounds crazy i know, but it helped me and my mates performance and we both have hd2900's.

not a massive improvement, i got 11,270 with stock clocks on my HD 2900 1GB. 743/1000. follow the link. i found it did look smoother to watch tho. still very impressed with 7.7..

FYI: when i put on 24xAA and max out all settings in 3DMark06, and put the resolution on 1680x1050, i didnt finish the benchmark but the first test was getting bout 27fps inside the dropship, bout 15-17fps in the hangar. looked pretty sweet tho :) i want LouieV13 to do it. set everything as maxed as it can be, just to see how it goes.

I might change my mind for my future build's graphics card - maybe a 2900XT would be a good choice.

they have massive overclock potential. when mines stable overclocked (i only got a 600w PSU so its not really good for overclocking yet) i get over 12,000 with the core @ 850 and the mem @ 1100. and LouieV13 seems to be doing more than ok with a Crossfire setup. plus once u see 24xAA in action....enough to get a nerd off ;) haha...yeah, i said it.

yeah it is a waste, just wondering what FPS you'd get. to be getting 60fps in Lost Planet on 1920x1200 with all settings maxed, thats awesome man lol.and yeah i personally can notice the difference with 24xAA. its a big jump. really steps up the IQ

I think 8xAA looks perfect. I can't even tell a difference between 16xQAA and 8xAA...
