Any thoughts? I didn't really know what I was doing but just fumbled my way along. PC is working fine but now has no sound, have I missed something? I've never done anything beyond changing GPU's and CD drives so don't really know my way around the inside of a PC properly!

Is your audio cable still connected (to the speakers)?

Yes everything outside of the case is as it was (checked and double checked). Just wondering if there is a cable inside the case that has any effect on audio basically? I may have unplugged something i shouldn't have or forgotten to plug something in. I guess I shouldn't be dicking around when I don't know what's what but it's an old machine and if you don't do you don't learn right!

There is nothing about a CPU that should make any difference to the sound---in other words, the problem isn't being caused by a bad CPU. Make sure you have everything back the way it was physically, like our friend evildead says. As far as connections inside the box, we would need to know what hardware you have. You should also check Windows, of course. Make sure you're not muted, and go into start / controlpanel / sound and select default playback device. Edit: Topic changed to PSU. Was CPU.

Don't worry, you probably just bumped onto the audio connector. Just disconnect it and connect it again

Look on your motherboard for "F_Audio", "FP Audio" or something similar to that (Your case's audio/hd audio connector should be connected there)

Ah man I completely messed up the topic. I meant PSU not CPU.. What a difference a letter makes! Sorry people.

This is likely the cause if you changed the PSU and removed all the wires. You likely just forgot to re-plug that part back into the motherboard.

The connector is usually something like this

You connect it in here (It may also be called FP Audio, F Audio, FPanel Audio or FP_Audio or other names similar to those)
