There is plenty of guides on the internet for changing nat type. Just google it and you'll get a bunch of results. I had to do this for my PS3 a while back.

You don't change NAT Types, you actually "forward" ports to your PC or Console.

Ps3 for me also . It also depends on the router, as each have different ways to log into them. At least mine did. I had a linksys before, then got a ****** later, and both had restricted NAT types, so I had to go in and change em. It'd be nice if a router company just decided to place a switch, or button where you could change the NAT type. That would be to easy though. Lol

That's impossible cause there is no such thing as changing NAT Type. The games put it like that for whatever reason. There is port forwarding to specific IP Addresses, so that's why a ONE Touch Button wouldn't work.

Still, most Routers come with UPnP which should do the port forwarding automatically.

Don't look too much into the Restricted NAT Type on games though, it's all BS.

How does port forwarding work? I've been having problems getting two PC's in the same house to play together on BF3 when one goes online it boots the other out of the game. Some guides say online I have to do some port forwarding, but I have no clue what that is.

NAT type is not a setting, it's just how your router and modem is set up:

Type 1: The PS3 is sitting directly on the Internet with a public IP address. This setup doesnt require NAT or inbound port forwarding and is used in scenarios where the PS3 is the only device wanting to use the Internet connection. This isnt that common as most users share their Internet connection with other devices in their home.

Type 2: This is the most common and ideal type where the PS3 is sitting behind a RG that is performing NAT. The PS3 will have a private IP address which is translated to a private or public IP address by the RG.

Type 3: This usually implies you have a problem in the way the PS3 is accessing the Internet. This may be caused by a firewall or port restrictions. This isnt ideal and will result in a sub-optimal gaming experience.

Port fowarding works by opening a port to a specific IP Address. The easiest way is to have the computer or PS3 on a static IP Address inside the network, and forward (open) the needed ports to it. You will have to google how to port forward on ur router model, cause each model is different. You can always PM me for extra help. As for BF3 though, it has HEAPS of issues with 2 computers playing in the same house. We try at work to play and when there are more than 2 people it starts kicking players out. There is a registry fix for it that helps but doesn't fix it 100%, so just be aware that even if u get the port forwarded correctly, BF3 is still crap at allowing more than 2 PCs on the same network.

Well, not changing NAT type, but opening ports, which help it CHANGE NAT type. I went through the process so the NAT would change. How's that?

Yeah, opening ports might change what it says in the game maybe, but like I said before, there is no such thing as NAT Type, and the NAT Type you see in games is all BS made up so they can blame ur router in case you ring for technical support. I have my ports forwarded correctly for FIFA13, yet some days the NAT (inside the game) is green, other days it's red. See, BS.

I don't see NAT type in games. I see it in my PS3's dashboard or Xbox 360's network settings, or even when I check the network on the PC. Having a strict NAT can affect you playing online in all games. My younger brother had a strict NAT and he couldn't join me in ANY game, yet he could play certain other people. Once he got his ports forwarded, the issues were resolved. So there is a such thing as different NAT type, or NAT settings if you will. I don't think it's some sorta conspiracy by the game companies to prevent being blamed for drops. Lol

^^ I see you are not understand my point. I'll try to explain better. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DIFFERENT NATs. Now, when a game detects that it can't see the required ports open, or accessible, it puts the NAT as Strict. Once you open the ports, the game will detect the NAT more open. Saying that, there is no such thing as a Strict NAT or an open NAT (that's just words made up by consoles and games). NAT is Network Address Translation, all it does it translate ur WAN IP to ur LAN IP. Once more: Port Forwarding is the correct term. NAT is just NAT, no such thing as strict or open (that's just made up by companies so u understand it better). And yes, it's not a conspiracy but it's all BS.

for more then one machine on the network you should use UPnP. Any port forwarding done on the router will negate UPnP. As Felipe has stated, NAT types dont exist. The ports and routing tables are either correct or they arent. You guys should disable and QoS you have going also if you continue to experience BS.

Dark, what has ur experience been like with upnp? Its a great idea but I don't think it works all that great, with my router anyway...

Depends on the router. I have a netgear WNDR3700 which worked well when I was using it to handle the PPPoE connection. It got a little power damaged during a storm one day so now its just a wifi router. I have/had a DLINK router which was crapola. Im now using a netcomm NB6+ which works well for UPnP.

I have a Netgear DGND3700 (All in one modem/router). Contrary to popular belief that All-in-Ones are crap, this thing is a beast. But I don't trust the UPNP on it.
