It definitely will help but i would suggest spending a bit more money and getting a CPU that will do better in the long run such as the e8500 or e8400

"LGA775 socket for Intel® Core™2 Duo / Pentium® D / Pentium® 4 / Celeron® D Processors"http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=498&l4=0&model=1768&modelmenu=2

This is from asus website on your board, so yes it does support C2D. Also make sure your ram is 667mhz.

Its not bad, but its 8800 series you should be aiming for, maybe wait and save money for awhile or get a second hand one.

It's not about clock speed, it's about the model of the card. An E8400 (runs at about ~$150) will boost your performance some. In this case though, upgrading to either an 8800GTX or a 9800GTX will boost your performance a lot. Keep in mind though that the slower processor with either of those graphics cards might bottleneck you a bit. To see the biggest performance increase, upgrade both :p (money permitting). Otherwise, GPU now, CPU later.

since it doesn't officially support 1333mzh fsb it probably doesn't support the e8xxx cpus and may not support any 45nm cpus so I'd look at getting e6xxx or e4xxx or even e2xxx any of those will make a huge difference
