I am in need of a decent directx 10 graphics card, with an aftermarket(3rd party) cooler. I want to stick to nvidia because my currently x1800xl was getting too hot out of the box and I was compelled to buy a Artic Cooling solution.

Try to keep the budget within 100-250 $(Usa dollar).

Any input?

Theres not even much reason to use DX10 to begin with.. For the most part Vista has a negative performance hit over Xp, for alot of times where images are not that much better.. I am still waiting for this claimed "60% performance increase over DX9".. Because as it stand most people are having trouble matching XP performance using Vista :?

You're basing the decision to not buy a ATi card the fact that you bought a notoriously hot card to begin with? That's genius. Anyways, with the budget you gave, the obvious choice would be to get a HD 3870. The ATi cards have much better cooling now and the 3870 actually performs decently against the 8800GT for the price you pay.

A cheap DirectX10 card would suck. Not only that, but DirectX10 doesn't really do anything yet.

Yea.. I didn't fully understand this.

I have a pci express x16 slot.

The ati Hd 3870 is pci express 2.0

Now, I wikied it and found out that 2.0 works on the older versions.

Is this true?

And also if I use it on the older version will it made a performance difference?

Don't bother with Dx 10,small graphical improvements with performance crushing even top-of-the-line PC's with Quad Core and 8800 and HD 3800 cards.
