x1950pro or xt if you can find them.

for dx10 support an 2600 for moderate performance, or an 8800gt/3870 if you can find either for a sick card.

Personally I'd go with 8800GT, its a fantastic card with a good price.

$300 can get you 8800GT or HD 3870,make sure you have a PCI-E x16 slot and a decent PSU.

The DX10 cards do DX9 and way better than any DX9-only cards to boot. Get a HD 3850, HD 3870, or an 8800GT. I've got an 8800GT and it's just plain fantastic.

I prefer Geforce 8800 GT 512mb. I purchased this card the second day it came out. And after a year or so, the card still holds up great. You can run all games on full settings (besides Crysis). If you are debating on different cards and this one, go for the eVGA 8800GTS, you will enjoy it. A decent deal forXFX Geforce 8800is $280. You can have a look:
