I am building a PC for my brother and the most demanding game he wants to play is BF3, so taking that into consideration what would be the cheapest graphics card on the market that can run the game in 1080p with a consistent 40-50 fps and everything on max...including MAX AA, MAX AF and HBAO.

gtx 560ti or shop overseas and get an hd 6930 for a similar price in china (newegg.cn has some left from powercolor (dataland))

Well, You will need a GPU with more then 1gb of video memory, But the best bang for your buck will be a GTX 670 which plays BF3 at 90+ fps with Ultra settings with FXAA at 1080. But the lowest I would go would be a GTX 560ti (448) or GTX 570 or 7850/7870, which both will play BF3 mostly on ultra with FXAA with above 50 fps. But money that spent on those gpu's , you might as well fork over another $100 or so for a 670 because its over 60% faster then GTX then those $300 cards.

I can probably get a 560ti for $230 but can that completely max BF3 with high AA and HBAO?

8gb of system ram + 7850 is enough bang to max online. The game has poor ram management.

I have the same card gtx 560ti which I bought recently and I am able to max out skyrim barely but I guess its due to my old processor, its a q6600 quad core 2.4 ghz (stock). I think bf3 is a lot more demanding and if you have a good prcoessor you might be able to max it but it would be around 30 to 40 max ,even thats optimistic thinking. I honestly don't have the game so I can't tell you exactly.

Well , with my system that has a overclocked GTX 560 1gb I can run BF3 with a mix of ultra and high settings at 1680x1050 with FXAA and SSAO with an average of 40 fps on 64 man servers. The difference between HBAO and SSAO is something your not going to notice along with the need for more then FXAA. If you can get your hands on a GTX 560ti (448 core) you will be ok.

yes you can however not all CC's are accepted and you are required to pay international shipping fee's as a result the normal price of about 120 US comes closer to 150-160

Yeah i am thinking about getting an i5-2500K with it. Is there a big difference between the 560ti and a 7850?

GTX 560ti (448) vs 7850 their pretty close performance wise, just pick up which one is cheaper. However if you can only get the normal GTX 560ti's then go for the 7850.

560ti rev 1.0 is noticeably inferior to the 7850. meanwhile the 2nd variant (448 core) is much closer id say their neck in neck but the 7850 uses less pwoer and overclocks alot better

thanks...Guess its the 7850 than since the 448 is basically the same price. Any suggestion on which brand is good to get (if it even matters)? the VisionTek one above or GIGABYTE HD 7850 OC Edition or MSI R7850 Twin Frozr

Did you click the link? (it's not the GPUs highlighted with blue and green I admit that may cause confusion) or have I turned blind? because I think I saw 209 dollars. xP

He also said up to 50FPS.D= But that card in the link should do fine in mid 40s.

Don't get the GTX 560Ti 384Core 1GB one.... I have them in SLi and I get framedrops and lots of stuttering when I set it to Ultra in BF3, without even enabling AA (I use FXAA) To make the game enjoyable (for me it needs to run at 60fps AT ALL TIMES) i set it all to medium no HBAO.

Exactly, found that out the hard way ultra textures with AA can use more then 1,5 gb of memory. If you have 1gb use only high textures

In games that don't surpass the VRAM limit, SLI GTX560TI run really well.

I wish it did, having 2GB 460s would had been awesome, but sadly it isn't the case, so no.

that sucks, that shot you posted looks like 720p and even that uses 1.6gb? I guess for ultra 7850 really is the cheapest option.

never tried SLI but wouldn't having two give you 2gb of ram?

As others have said, using SLI or XFire, the VRAM does not Stack. Which sucks. To be honest, the only reason why I went with GTX 560Ti SLI is cause I already owned 1 560 when I was making my new PC. As soon as the GTX 780 (when it's released) is proven to be powerful, I'm gonna ditch these 2 and get that.

I wish it did, having 2GB 460s would had been awesome, but sadly it isn't the case, so no.

that sucks, that shot you posted looks like 720p and even that uses 1.6gb? I guess for ultra 7850 really is the cheapest option.

I think it's downsized but it surely uses that at 1080p+.

The HD 7850 is just able to crack the 40fps average mark when running on Ultra @ 1080p and 4XAA

The GTX 480 I linked earlier is a bit cheaper though and performs better in BF3 (but slightly worse in some other titles).

yeah i saw that but in CDN $ its 230 which is like $10 less than the 7850, so I might as well go with the newer card. One question though why does the PowerColor 7850 run the game better, what's the difference between that and the other brands?

The PowerColor HD 7850 PCS+ comes factory overclocked (core clock from 860 to 1000mhz and memory clock from 1200mhz to 1225mhz) hence why it runs faster.

Other brands does this too by the way, not just PowerColor.

thanks I am pretty noob at this technical stuff, can't you reach the factory overclock with a regular card?

I am building a PC for my brother and the most demanding game he wants to play is BF3, so taking that into consideration what would be the cheapest graphics card on the market that can run the game in 1080p with a consistent 40-50 fps and everything on max...including MAX AA, MAX AF and HBAO.

04dcarraher

Well, You will need a GPU with more then 1gb of video memory, But the best bang for your buck will be a GTX 670 which plays BF3 at 90+ fps with Ultra settings with FXAA at 1080. But the lowest I would go would be a GTX 560ti (448) or GTX 570 or 7850/7870, which both will play BF3 mostly on ultra with FXAA with above 50 fps. But money that spent on those gpu's , you might as well fork over another $100 or so for a 670 because its over 60% faster then GTX then those $300 cards.

Yeah, I seem to be thinking the same thing. I keep seeing each level of upgrades for only 20-40 more, so I'm sorta in that dilemma, where I say, " I can get the 6950, but why not go for the 6970, then again just go for the 7850. Nah, just get the 7870 for a little more" I think I'll wait to see what's around the corner. I want the 7870, but hopefully it will come down in price in the next 6 months. My dual 6870s are doing fine, but I just wanna lift some of the strain of my 600 watt power supply.

If you use FXAA instead of MSAA it's far easier to run.

A 560ti should do ultra with FXAA fine.

Looks like even a 580 won't do 60fps on ultra http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/battlefield-3-graphics-performance,review-32308-7.html Although that was at the games release, i'm sure patches and drives have made a big difference.

Not really. As soon as I bump my texture setting to Ultra, it's a stutterfest. (GTX560Ti SLi). When the game doesn't surpass 1GB VRAM, everything runs flawlessly. As soon as it passes 1GB, it becomes all stuttery. And this is using the latest patch and nvidia drivers.

FXAA just makes the game a bit blurrier, but using the injector, it helps a bit and makes it sharper. MSAA does provide a better visual quality, but has a high performance hit. Personally, I love FXAA, i don't mind the mild blurriness. The pros outweights the con of using it, in my opinion.

I use the injector as well.
