I don't think anything can max crysis. 4850 should play it pretty well at decent settings. 5870 in crossfire would probably max it, or even a single one. With a better CPU. Performance doesn't come on the cheap.d-rtyboy
okay...
OP: how much do you actually have to spend?
It would be helpful if you gave us a budget ;)My friend needs a new Pc and needs some help. He wants to max out crysis but he also wants the combined parts to be relatively cheap. Can someone put help me out. Thanks :P

Yes! However the 5870 is sold out everywhere for now. Should be back in stock soon though ;)I can maxout crysis, u need atleast 1 5870 with a Phenom2 quad@3.6+ preferably corei7@2.6 to maxout crysis.

What do you consider "maxing out"? With AA? 1920 x 1080 or higher resoluton?
For 1920 x 1080 with no AA, maxed out other settings, the 4890 should handle it fine.
Whoa, a comment of the year! Phenom II @ 3.6 and I7 @ 2.6??? Do you know that Crysis is not multithreaded and it is proven it works better on higher clocked duals? Do you know, by the way, that Phenom II is better than I7 in games? Do you know, that a 3.6GHz Phenom II would utterly humiliate and annihilate the I7 at 2.6GHz? You don't know many things.... For TC, the card that can max Crysis is at least GTX285/HD5850. And that is without AA. With AA, you'd need 5870 or higher.I can maxout crysis, u need atleast 1 5870 with a Phenom2 quad@3.6+ preferably corei7@2.6 to maxout crysis.

Huh? YES?Nice of you being such a radical fan of AMD, confirming that an I7@2.6 is faster than a 3.6GHz PII!!! And Crysis is only dual threaded, you should at least know that! What's happening to ya?

Oh no you misunderstood. I was agreeing with his suggestion of the 5870. ;) :DCrysis does not require a radical CPU to run at it's full potential. In fact, it doesn't even use more than 2 cores. This has been proven and fully documented for a long time! Any Core 2 duo of 2.6ghz+ will give you the "full" experience.
The GPU is a different matter. I completely max out Crysis+ Warhead on my 5870 at 1680x1050 with 4xAA on. It runs at over 30fps with those settings. I turned the AA down to 2x to get a better experience. I suspect that a 5850 could run the game at my resolution completely maxed out without the AA with no issues.
As for the "Phenom II versus i7" arguments-- The i7 is faster for most applications clock for clock. However, in gaming you will see little to no difference since they're both overkill for the vast majority of games. If we're comparing a 3.6ghz PII to a 2.6ghz i7, the Phenom II wins.. no question.

Id take the phenom, unlocked multiplier and cheaper...To me, maxing out Crysis means Very High DX10 and NEVER dipping below 60 FPS. Resolution, AA, and AF may vary, depending on whether they drop framerates too much when applied or not.NamelessPlayer

My card can max Crysis then. On a resolution of 640x480, lol.
Well anyway according Benchmark if you want the 40's fps you need at last a good Core 2 duo : A 260GTX & higher. for 1280x1024 (no lag)
While if you'r looking for 1680x1050 : it is suggest to look forward dual gpu solution such as 4870x2 or the HD5870 (performance of 4870x2 in one card)
but you can still run it my friend who as weaker system then mine did run it at 30fps on 1680x1050 with 2xaa to 0xaa : E8400 4.0Ghz OC + 260GTX it is enough stable to play so in fact that what you say for maxing out Crysis graphic but even of today you can't MAX Cryisis at 1920x1200 with 295GTX / 5870 1GB with Awesome 60fps+

while i heard warhead does use better the power of the gpu and the incoming Engine from the same company : crytek 3.0 will be Less Gourmand in power and extract more the True power of very high potential GPU&CPU while still beat by lot it previous graphic but such game may take 1-2 year to release and i don't have name of there title using it ;)
If i remember it was shown in a expo like computex 2009 that it was running a game that was graphically Superior then crisis maxed out and it did perform like butter : no delay with a single HD5970 2GB at 2560x1600 :P which is like not do-able right now with 5870 1GB Crossfire on Both Crisis Title :D
