EDIT - This is what I have come up with. I'm not sure if everything is compatible (RAM, CPU, etc.) or if everything is what I should get. Many people keep complaining about the MOBO for some reason. Please recommend a change or tell me if you like. Keep in mind I'm going for a pretty low budget but decent build, so don't tell me a different dual or quad core would be better, that's obvious. TY

------------------

CPU & GPU - My processor and graphics card don't have to be amazing, although I see the HD4850 is around $200 anyway, so it's not too expensive (if I should get that, please link to the best version for the price). My other build has a Q6600, so I think I want a decent dual core this time to try (I know there are some pretty good cheap ones - nothing too cheap though please).

PSU - I'm assuming this is enough power.

MOBO - My other computer has a Gigabyte and it seems to run smoothly. Do not need any SLI support. Just a solid one that'll be compatible with all of this other stuff.

RAM - RAM is always cheap and I only need 2GB (though I guess I could make my system a lot better for only a little more, so I don't mind more as long as it's not too expensive). Decent quality below $100 please. Someone recommended this.

CASE - This is what my other desktop has and it's pretty cool I think. Don't need to buy tons of other fans. This is the only good case I hear about. If you find something cheaper that's as good, please make sure it isn't completely plastic with like corny flames on it. I don't want it to look like a gamer PC heh.

HD - don't need a huge one. Even 160GB or less would probably be fine. A fast Seagate would be nice.

DVD/CD - I assume this is the basic and best or whatever. Someone posted this too. I'm not going to be doing much burning really.

HEATSINK, EXTRA FANS, THERMAL PASTE -
OS - XP Pro (don't know where to find this cheaply)
KEYBOARD - have
HEADPHONES - have
SOUND CARD - don't need...mobo has good enough integrated i think
MOUSE - have
MOUSEPAD - have
MONITOR - have
SCREWDRIVER & NONMAGNETIC SCREWS

Sorry for all the extra stuff, I'm using this as a checklist (first one I'm building myself).

If possible, I want it to be $900 max. Still want a high quality desktop. I play CSS mainly. Please fill in as much as you know. Basically good stuff at a medium price.

TY

You pretty much have the right idea, Q6600 and an HD 4850 would play absolutely anything out there today.

As for the motherboard a P35 motherboard may suit you best as they are pretty cheap, you may have to change to DDR2 800 RAM modules though. Gigabyte and Asus are the two best known brands, both are great quality.

As for the case, if you want to save some cash, the Cooler Master CM690 is case with superb cooling options as well for less cash.

The PSU you chose will provide plenty of power, and is a good brand.

This harddrive will have enough space/speed and isn't to much http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148262 Everything else looks good and no you don't need SLI espically since you can't run SLI with ATI cards. As for heatsink if your not overclocking alot then just get something better than a stock cooler that already has paste like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200034 As for soundcard, most motherboards come with pretty good intergrated sound so you should be fine unless you have great speakers. Performance wise this computer is fine and by 2009 there might be 1-2 games you can't max at a decent resolution.

Good job covering what I left out. I think that covers your entire system, all that's left is a little searching.

You will need DDR2 1066 instead of DDR2 1000 for that motherboard, the link I gave you earlier has the same brand and correct speeds. (The DDR2 1000 may still work, but it's better to have the faster speed if the price is comparable). Other than that, it looks good, oh and here is Windows XP Pro SP3 for system builders.

Link

So I need new RAM (be great if someone could recommend good 2GB or 4gb below $100). Also, the MOBO there says 1333FSB and the CPU I have there is like 1066FSB. Don't know if I'm right or if that mobo is a good one (sounds like a noname brand...gigabytes are good i know and they come with good guides on how to build ha). And I'm not sure if that rosewill heatsink is enough. I might try this But I hear it is hard to install because it is big and this is my first rig im building so idk if i want to do that. don't know if its necessary.

The memory that I linked several posts back will work with the motherboard. Also ASRock is owned by ASUS (which is high quality), and their goal is mainstream to budget solutions with high efficiency, so I wouldn't be worried. Also the processor you bought does come with cooler, and it's quite comparable to the Rosewill one you selected, I would only recommend a tall heat pipe cooler if you're overclocking or have the money. If you're not overclocking, the standard cooler that comes with the processor will be fine.

Everything looks good, but as a last minute suggestion, if you're going to buy thermal compound try this. It is a dollar more, but this thermal compound has a longer life of optimal performance than AS5.

Your using this for gaming?

Go with the E8400 dual core, it is better for gaming then the Q6600, which is only good if your playing supcom and thats about it, lol. Overclock a little bit you wont regret it, you really can't mess anything up with gigabyte unless you do some crazy ass thing which you really can't. I thought that originaly too

Yeah thanks. I only mentioned the Q6600 saying that I didn't want it because it is in my other build and I wanted to try a cheaper Dual Core (don't have as much money for this build). And yeah im mainly playing css.

e8400, and e8500 > Q6600.

Both are cheaper to. ;)

EDIT: A cheap good dual core, e7200. Overclocks really well to.

EDIT: Here, make your pc similar to this. Take out that case and put the one you want in. And you are set!
