Checking the Popularity of PC Games

Is there some program or a website that can give you an approximate estimation of how many people are actually playing the game or how many active servers are there? I know there is Xfire but really I don't know what actualy percentag of PC gamers does Xfire represent so it can't give a clear answer.

I have tried GameTracker.com too but I don't know if that website is accurate or not.
