Choosing a online user name

I would like people to inform me of how they choose their user name for all to see when playing such online video games such as "Modern Warfare 2" and Team Fortress.

Perhaps you could share with me some of your user names as well and the reasons why you chose it.

I am asking as I think it might be time to choose a new name for myself. There has been an increase in the number of people hollering "the name suits you", "the name says it all", "you really are the biggest loser" etc etc.

In truth no name will ever put fear into others, only skill... I would go for a name that kind of fits you, as the player you are, you know... a cyber reflektion of the player.

But if you want a sort of neat (non to fimilar name, based on some really ghastly people) I think I might want to go with something like, then opt for some grusome character from some obscure tale as long as it is not something everyone know, instead of the bucket loads of people calling themselves "Killer" or Slayer" which are moot names considering that there are about 700k people named the same.

So. a more personal name that is not average is likely to make people notice you more, and if youre good grind thier teeth when they see you joining a game ;)

Personally I usually go under the name/word "Karma" it sort of fits me ^^ you know... "Karma isa Bi*ch" and "that had to be some bad karma there"

Altho I never use such sentences myself (I opt for the "Call me Queen!" over OWNED, due to it NOT being a shallow repetition of everyone else, and for laughs)

To be honest tho, I kinda like the username you have... It is one I recognice, it is atypical, and not as uniform as a heck of alot of other names.

I use 'WhOOmpa260'. Which is from the whoomp creatures in mario (the giant rocks, with metal balls for arms). I think they're pretty cool and dangerous, I put the numbers and capitals in because 'whomper' was already taken. So I guess my name came from characters in other games, hope that helps. (if u like COD, maybe you should pick 'Soap' :P)

I mostly used "LiveWire" on COD4, but later found out that it was common as hell on the net. Then I turned to "Optical Blade" which suited me more. There is no way really to come up with a dozen 'uber-kewl' and uncommon nickname in a matter of minutes. Besides, your nick is only as good as your skill online. If you constantly suck, then your 'cool' name will start to suck too.

P.S. - Since you loved Thief 3 so much, why don't you use "Ion Storm"? Either you use it or I will.... :P

For games on Steam, you can just change your name anytime you want, so people see a differnt name while you are in game.

For example.. your og name would be biggestloser, but if you want others to see you have a name such as GANDOLF while you play Team Fortress2 or Counterstrike Source, then just go to steam OPTIONS/SETTINGS and just chance your name while you play that game!

I used to play as BlindWillie. I thought it sounded pretty cool and I liked the obvious double entendre :P

It was also a kind of secret reference to two of my favourite pre-war blues artists, Blind Willie Johnson & Blind Willie McTell. Some people took offence though. Asking me if I thought blindness was funny.

Now I just use SweePee. Not too childish and not too common. I've also played as The Loveboat and as NoSoundcard (Unfortunately, I wasn't kidding at the time.)

But like some other people noted, the best nicks are probably the ones you just stumble upon. They might be nonsensical but they somehow suit your character.

In Team Fortress 2, I've used Nagger, Sandvich Nagger, Sandvich Eating Nagger, and Peaceful Sandvich Nagger. I enjoy using Nagger, because occasionally some players on the opposite team will comment 'f***ing nagger' if I annoy them (most likely by getting too many lucky kills), giving me a little chuckle.

I prefer something simple, memorable and consistent. Something they will remember and fear every time you return to the server.

Having said that I use Timma, and variations of tags and what not on that name. Originally got it from Southpark and then edited my steam page and persona around it.

Make it something that sounds intelligent, horrible, and confusing, like xxAnthropomorphismBEASTxx82.

for my mates it is cool and they are scred of this name,because whenever they see myusername in front of them- it will become their last.

i kinda like more proffesional names like -SoReal+ or like nA^SteAlTh+ or maybe UnT_DraGo

Most any name I have chosen have usually been given to me by others or have a story behind it. I usually game under PublicNuisance or PublicLewdness. Those I just chose because I used to troll system wars a lot and it suited me. Other names I have used such as Simmonz was given to me by others because I looked like a friend of theirs with that last name.

The best name I've ever seen on TF2 was Slippery Dingus Sex Detective. Pure genius.

As for finding your own name, the best ones are the ones other people give you, or you just stumble across randomly.

For STEAM and non STEAM games I use UnrealDelusion and for for PSN I use Painless1979

(When I used to play WoW, I was the *only* Trijity out of the millions! made me feel a little special considering that it isn't anything too funky. I saw a player named "someone" the other day. He was on the other team, and it was always "You killed someone" or "You were killed by someone". It was so friggin' annoying and funny at the same time.
