I know this is an older game, but I'm curious. I recently stumbled upon the Riddick trilogy dvd set for $10 and loved the movies. Sure, there were overused themes present, but something about both movies made the overused themes work for me.

Who here has played the video game, Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay? I enjoy fps games. I've read the gamespot review, but I'd like to hear what some people here have to say. Is it an enjoyable game?

It really does add to the story. The movies make much more sense after playing the game.

Definately worthy of the price for which you can get it.

http://search.half.ebay.com/chronicles-of-riddick_W0QQmZvideoQ2dgames

It's cheap for either xbox or pc, and both look pretty amazing for the time.

i cannot stand the films, i found the riddick character too "badass" - and not in a good way, the story generally uninteresting, and things like necromongers were absurd

but escape from butcher bay is a masterpiece - it expertly blends numerous gameplay elements like stealth, action and roleplaying... it constantly mixes things up, one moment you're smashing around in an ED-209 style enforcement droid, the next you're taking part in bare knuckle fight competitions, the next you're sneaking through chlaustrophobic corridors shivving guards and snapping necks, the next moment you're walking around with a minigun, blasting aliens apart

there isn't much of a story, but the narrative very professionally ties everything together, the voice acting is an absolute pleasure (his line deliveries are way better than the films imo), and the production value is exceptionally high - very cinematic...i haven't played the darkness yet, but starbreeze instantly became one of my favourite developers

it plays great, it looks great - i consider it one of the best games ever made, and i recommend it as highly as possible

also, a small note, if you're hesitant to play games before 2005 because you consider them older, you're missing out on a hell of a lot, my friend

Heck no, my friend. In fact, I find many newer games lack the depth of games made 7 or so years ago. Fallout, Baldur's Gate, System Shock 2 et cetera. I was just saying "Riddick" was older relative to the rapidly changing world of gaming. But by no means does that make a game inferior. No way.

After these comments, I really want to play this game. I'll have to look it up on Ebay or something. Cheers!

It's very good and very under rated. I personally liked it better than HL2.

To sum it up, The Chronicles of Riddick is one of the most overlooked and underrated games in the past few years. It got a nod of the head from critics, but thats about it.

But if you ask anyone who has played it, they will tell you its awesome. Whether your breaking necks, shanking fools, or fist-fighting inmates, its all good. And the story is top notch to boot, as is the voice acting.

Escape from Butcher Bay was a great game on both the Xbox and the PC. It was even better on the PC since they added content that was left out of the Xbox version. The developers are working on a reworked version of the game for the 360 that should be out sometime soon.

This game is the ****! I saw it in the bargain bin the other day, and if not for the updated version coming out soon, I would have grabbed it so I could play through it again. It also ties in with Riddicks story well, which is great as I loved the movies too.

Summary: GET IT!

Yeah, it really is one of the best games made in the last few years. Awesome atmosphere, cool story, fun gameplay, good voice-acting, and top notch production quality. Gotta give it up to Vin and Starbreeze. They did a great job on it. And don't forget, it was one of the first games to use normal mapping, even before Doom 3! It seems like it's highly underrated, and people constantly claim it's an "unknown" or "forgotten" title, but I think it left it's mark on the gaming community. It's extremely highly rated by gamers (just look at all the posts above), and it provided an unforgettable experience that was better (IMO) then the movie it was released alongside.

you can buy the game online from vivendi or several other online direct download sites. It runs around 15-20$, and is probably one of the best FPS games in 2004-2005, next to far cry, doom, HL2 for singleplayer games.

I loved the game. As soon as I finished the game I went out and rented all the movies. They were disappointing compared to the game though.

If I remember the reviews correctly, the game is made by a company that is headed by whoever stars in the Chronicles of Riddcik movies (forgot his name). I guess he's a gamer and loves action games and that's why he made his movies his way on the computer. I hear there is a great add on to the PC version, the commentary from the directors, like a DVD. But yeah top notch action.
