I'm going to buy one at best buy and return it a week later once they get them in stock. If it's a significant improvement I'll buy one on NewEgg.Staryoshi87
So you will order a card from newegg and while the shipping takes place, you will buy a 4850 from BestBuy when the other 4850 from newegg arrives you will return the other 4850?
Is that even legal?

Step 1: Buy the card at bestbuy for xxx price (probably $250)
Step 2: Play with card until I'm sure whether or not it's enough of a step-up from my 8800GTS 640mb to keep.
Step 3: If it is, return card to Best Buy (30 day return period for full refund on most merchandise... video cards fall into that category, so do cases and headsets btw :P) and order from Newegg. If it isn't, skip order from Newegg and hold out for a later card around x-mas.
Step 4: Sleep easy knowing that you've taken advantage of a legitimate return policy. I've spent enough money there in the past to not feel a wink guilty, plus it's legit :)
OMG that will be epic Staryoshi87

I bought a 9600GT there shortly after it came out (They wanted $229 for it =/). Tried it, didn't offer much improvement over my 8800GTS, if any, so I returned it and got all mah monies back. Also tried a computer case, too. I always took gentle care of each, but I've bought enough crap there to earn a few test drives :)
I just ran 3dmark06 at 100% stock and came up with the following:
This card runs HOTTTTT 72C idle, 81C Load. It doesn't put out a lot of air, but the card itself is scorching (with an additional intake fan blowing cool air on the stock fan from below). I haven't tried changing the fan speed as I can't get ATI Tool to work, but I will later. A brief overview of my system is as follows:
E6600 stock
3GB DDR2 5-5-5-18 (having issues :P)
8800GTS 640mb / Radeon HD4850
At 100% stock my system scored 8759 3dmarks with the 8800 and 10040 with the HD4850. Overclocking the 8800 can get me to 10000 alone, and OC'ing the CPU too would probably get me up around 11k. Once my new case and heatsinks come I'll see how this card OCs. I have low expectations, but it's worth a shot :) No drivers besides the ones on the disc were available for the 4850 btw.
An important side note and the reason why I may keep this card even if it's similar to my 8800 (or return it once the 4870 comes out) is that the DVI to HDMI out adapter supports audio. It's a hassle for me to get sound to my HDTV from my comp so it would be a worthwhile feature.
