TOPIC?

Also with the expansions its 39.99 ... are you missing out on a huge part of the game without the expansions? Or is it still good by itself?

The game rocks. No, you don't need the expansions, but it certainly adds to the experience.

I paid 55 for Civ 4 and Warlords, best money I've ever spent on a game.

If you buy Civ4, you really want Beyond the Sword - it adds a lot to the game. Warlords is sort of made redundant by BtS, but at $40 it's still a good deal.

you can get civ 4 complete for $35 at gogamer.com, if you want the retail version. it's the european version, but it's no different from what you'd get in the states. and yes, civ 4 is worth getting; and the expansions are good (especially beyond the sword).

That seems to only be Civ4 + Warlords, vs. Steam's Civ4 + Warlords + BtS for $40 this weekend only... otherwise that'd be a good deal vs. Steam's normal prices.

the only thing is i have never played any of the Civ games before, I've played some of the sim games like sim city and rollercoaster tycoon games. I know they are diffrent but I liked the building aspect of those and I enjoy the building aspect of RTS games not so much the actual fighting, so is this game for me?

Civilization is a turn-based strategy game, not a sim, not an RTS. There's a demo, check it out if you're unsure.

Ya I really enjoy the game of risk as well lol ... once again not the same thing but i'm sure that is partially where civilization got some inspiration.

sounds like you'd enjoy it. but there is fighting in the game, though it's not the primary focus. it's very strategic, much more so than other strategy games. you have to choose carefully who you're going to play as, what victory you're going to go for (there are like 5 or 6 types of ways to win the game), what technologies you're going to focus on, what things you're going to research, how you're going to expand your territory, etc. all this while micromanaging your cities and troops. if that sounds like fun to you, then this is your game. i really like it.

hmm I didn't know you played CIV IV...

He's 100% correct though BtS adds a lot to the base game, it's like getting a whole new game and other then the scenarios in Warlords you won't be missing anything by skipping that expansion.

You can get it on GameTap for like ..40 bucks for a year subscription. You also get a ton of other games with GameTap.

But if you don't want to do that, steam is a good deal.
