i played civ 4 for 40 or so hours and its good but i got sick of it and dont even bother looking at it.

EU3 i spent 100+ hours on and its the best grand strategy game i ever played.over hundreds of civilizations and provinces too.

go for EU3....civ 4 is over hyped and isn't that good

I haven't played EU3 yet, but for Civ4 I can say taht's it's a great game but if you've played the previous Civ games it prolly won't interest you more than that 40 or so hours someone already mentioned.

I think Civ 4 hands down because its 1 of the greatest series ever and the graphics are stunning. but ive nvr tried EU3 so i cant really say. All i know is tht Civ 4 is amazing and is very re-playable. great game and is definetley not overhyped up. If my comp was fast enough i would get it. A downside to it is tht I heard it crashes a lot whenu get close to the end because everything is so built up and huge. but as long as u have at least 1.8 GHZ i think ur fine.

So my verdict... CIV 4. No contest.

Civ 4 all the way. The Civilization games are always addicting, but it reaches an entire new freaking level with Civ 4.

lol u dont even own both and u say that civ4 is the best......i play lots of rts, tts tbs and gs games and i noe for a fact that eu3 is wayyyy better for gameplay....if u just like graphics and not that good gameplay, then civ4 is best for u.

other stuff eu3 has better than civ4 is the Ai, better moddability, and more features like interesting concept of trade, realistic real wars (american revolution for example), and the holy roman empire and papacy.

civ4 is more simpler but eu3 is better wayyyyy better when u learn all of the features

adicted to civ since the very 1st was released.

It's a great strategic game but will cost you hours to finish (not a game to play for just a few hours...it will consume you!)

eu3 I never played so I can't say if it is better or worse, but I can recommend you civ 4 it's also fun to play it with a friend online or lan

I found EU3 to be slightly better than Civ IV, Civ IV has better graphics, customisable soundtrack but isnt as indepth as EU3, i do find though both tend to get rather boring in the long run- Civ IV more so because civilizations tend to be so small and wars are a chore, EU3 is fun but after a certain amount of time you'll be so overwhelmingly powerful that there is no challenge -

some minor points as well:

Civ IV is simpler than EU3 manage cities, great persons, diplomacy, tech tree, province improvements

Civ IV has a customisable soundtrack

Civ IV i find has better graphics and abit more polish in some areas

EU3 is much much more complex- domestic policies, religious tolerance, colonisation, customiseable armies, navys and artillery, investment/mint, inflation, national ideas, advisors

EU3's combat is better

EU3 has greater variety amongst nations - culture, religion, army

EU3' has a greater number of diplomatic options

EU3 is huge (pick any nation/state at any date within the games timeframe - down to the very day)

Civ IV hands down, no doubt about it, don't even give it a second thought.

Civ IV is a great turn-based strategy game, easily the best I have ever played. The game has so much depth to it it's really hard to believe. It covers the entirety of Human history and you are there to guide it all. You develop your own civilization starting in the Stone Age and, if you're a good leader, can take it all the way through til the colonization of Alpha Centuri. And that's just in a standard free-form game, the game also comes w/ quite a few scenarios, which range from historically acurate to what-if to complete fantasy, which are really interesting and fun to play through. There's a good reason Civ IV won Game of the Year awards from so many major websites and publications;)

Now that you know how superior Civ IV is and that you should get it, I suggest waiting until the middle of next week to actually pick it up. The reason for this being that the 2nd expansion pack for the game is being released and it's the biggest Civ expansion ever, and that really is saying alot b/c some of the expansions for the earlier games were pretty meaty. Not only is the 2nd xpac being released, but it has been confirmed that they are issuing a "Gold" edition retail package that will include the original game, and BOTH xpacs in one box. That is what you want to get....

Do us all a favor and come back after you get it and have played for a couple hours and let us know what you think.

Also Agent 13 i would recommend looking into 'Alpha Centauri' its an older civ style game (same creators) but I find that its one of the best games ever made and puts even the newest Civ games to shame!
