I am planning on buying Civilation 4, and will probably go ahead and buy the Complete edition, because it isn't too expensive. I was just wondering if you can still access the Civ 4 tutorial on the complete edition, and also if you can just install Civ 4 (vanilla), then later on install the expansion packs? Does anyone know either of these?

ok thanks, i just wasnt sure, because i read it was all on one disc, and (having never played a civ game before) i wouldnt want to start out with the features from beyond the sword and warlords already installed, without being able to play the normal version.

Yes if youre talking about buying the civ package on steam, all are seperate games...so you can play Civ IV the original first if you want and so on and so forth.

well i was actually going to buy the boxed version, but i assume that would be the same way? the half life 1 anthology (the newest one to come out) was all on one disc, but after installation, displayed a separate file icon for each game (original, opposing force, blue shift, etc.). so i would hope this to be the same way. I would just rather play through the original first, before delving into the expansions.

No you dont install seperate. Well, is it like civ 1,2,3,4? or civ4-wl-bts? Just install civ4 then BTS and you are good to go. I wouldnt bother playing the older ones except for number 1. Civ4 is a massive improvement over the previous games. Make SURE you play BTS. check out www.civfanatics.com for tutorials and guides!

no, i wasnt going to buy any of the old versions, just the compilation with civ 4, warlords, beyond the sword, and colonization. i was just clarifying if you could play each version separately, or if the expansion pack kind of added on to the original, where you could then only play that, and not be able to just play with the original's features.

Hey.You can install Civilization 4 and expansions all at once, they all have separate launchers therefore you can separately launch either of the 3 games (Civ 4, Warlords or BtW)

As far as I know you just need to install Civilization 4 and Beyond the Sword as BtS install Warlords with it. Yes the expansions are great and add a lot of the game especially BtS. After playing BtW I would not play Civilization 4 as it has much more content, many improvements in the engine, gameplay, AI and etc. However Civ 4 and expansions have separate scenarios (additional content) that either can change your gameplay experience in normal game or have somewhat different gameplay mechanics (different technologies, units, time setting, rules and etc). So if you want to play any scenarios you will have to launch the required Civ game. For example in Warlords there is a scenario where you can play as Barbarians. Make sure you download the latest patches they fix many bugs with the game.
