Regardless of the price, Are civ games worth it for a person that has never played a civ game in his entire life?

I had never played a Civilization game until just recently and now I'm a huge fan. If you like any type of strategy game, I'd say it's definitely worth it. Plus there's a ton of content, especially if you get the complete edition.

Civ is pretty fun. I personally prefer Alpha Centauri as far as Sid Meier games go, but that game is 11 years old (although honestly the graphics in the civ games haven't really improved much in that time frame).

At $10 for the Complete edition on Steam, there's no harm in getting Civ IV while waiting for V . :)

Civ IV was the first Civ game I played, it took me a pretty long time to figure out how everything works. But I recommend it.

Also, it's INCREDIBLY ADDICTIVE, you have been warned.

It's absolutely worth it. The gameplay is limitless. I've been playing it nonstop for years. As for one of the posters above regarding graphics, I bought CIVIII later on sale and there's no comparison with IV on graphics. CIVIV has great graphics for this type of game and there are very popular mods that improve graphics and interface. Join the civfanatic.com strategy forum and you will learn the game quickly - it's rather complex at first.

Civ IV is the easiest Civ for new players to get into, and is also the best of the series. The game has a large number of difficulty options and you select from an equally large number of map types. So it should be easy to find something your comfortable playing. If you do buy the Complete pack off of Steam, you really only need to install the original Civ IV and then the Beyond the Sword expansion. The Warlords content is included with the BtS expansion, so you don't even need to install it. Colonization is a stand alone game, but really isn't worth playing until you're more familiar with and have learned how to play Civ IV well.
