It might work, I've never tried it myself. I would wait until it's 100% completely positively dry before you put it back in, just to make sure it doesn't fry on you!

So, let me get this straight. You dunked a video card in water for sh*ts and giggles? Why?

Ugh, never mind. I'm sure you don't have a good reason. I wouldn't put it back in your main computer, though.

How long has it been? I'd wait up to an hour just to make sure all of the water's evaporated. Some could have gotten inside the heatsink.

Well as long as it's in a well ventilated area, it usually doesn't take that long to get rid of that little water.

If it's stuck under the cooler with no light hitting it, it won't go away in an hour.

The only reason i can think of it being bad is if the silicon absorbed the water, then i don't know how long it would take to dry. Very nice thread btw

This is ridiculous, I had no idea people would be this amazed by this. I mean it's a bit strange, but I've heard of it before. There's nothing wrong with washing it in water. However I would definately leave it out for a couple of days at least. It's also best to use distilled water and don't dry it in direct heat because the contraction and expansion could cause problems.

Argh you beat me! :P

Its actually relatively safe to wash electronics in water, as long as (like stated above) it is pure water (minerals could collect on the card otherwise) and the item must dry COMPLETELY. If theres any water left it could short out and fry the card...

Well I have, I remember someone had their router damaged by a leak and they managed to clean off all the minerals from the water, let it dry and it was fine (I think :P)

Ya, its really similar to cell phones. If you go swimming with your phone or drop it in the ocean it is recommended you immediately take the battery out and give it a bath in distilled water. This gets all the impurities and minerals off of the circuits. If you leave them on there the chlorine or salt will eat through the circuits and corrode them badly in just a couple of months. Water doesn't hurt circuits, electricity running through circuits with water present is what does it.
