I had that worded wrong. I fixed it now, I already have everything there except the quad core. So I was wondering if the quad core was a good idea. However I will probably wait until it drops in price. Anyway if anyone else has anything to add to any of my questions please do. Thanks again.

Also I will post my PSU later I'm in school now. I would like to know if my PSU can handle my current setup with that quad-core.

But first I need to know If it will work for my system I have either a 600w or 700w PSU I don't entirely remember. Does anyone know if that would work.  

The thing is I really don't need an update its just that my CPU fan is dying and I always wanted a quad-core so I wasn't sure if I should just kill to birds with one stone and get a quad-core or not. I don't suppose you know of any reliable third party cpu fans? Honestly the only game I am even looking forward to that supports dual/quad is E:TW and D3 so.....I guess I don't really need a quad, especially when my non dual/quad games will take a hit...Still though I suppose I'm just indecisive about wether or not to get one.

...Maybe I should have made this topic a poll :) 

Well if you know of any third party fans please let me know, I will just have to make my desicion soon the only reason I was going to wait till the holiday season was for any possible sales.....

your current system looks fine for current games to me, why not wait till there is something that actually needs upgrading.  Quads are currently a waste for gaming and any non video editing/rendering program.  The 5600x2 is not far from the fastest dual core cpu for the socket and going to a 6000x2 isn't going to show much improvment.

cpu upgrade shouldn't require windows to be reinstalled but might need to be reactivated.

I've had only two problems.....first Counter-Strike Source ran @ about 5 fps.......not sure why....

Second M2:TW has some issues when fighting the Mongol or Timurid Hoards........

I know that upping to Quad isnt going to fix M2..... As for CS I'm not sure what the problem was the same thing happened with HL2 ep 1-2, but Gmod worked fine.

So I guess in the end I really don't need anything I just had the sudden urge to get something......I suppose I will just grab a CPU fan, the one above looks impressive, but some of the newegg reviews mention its a bit big...not sure if I feel comfortable with it on my micro-ATX board and in my rather packed case...Regardless I'll continue looking into more CPU fans if anyone has any other recommendations or would also like to recommend the above fan I would appreciate any direction givin. Thanks for all the Help. :)

Get the 9950. marcthpro has posted benchmarks of a 9850 being equal to a 3 ghz e8400. Phenoms are faster than athlons clock for clock so it would be a decent upgrade.beefdog

Hmm, just two questions though, first will my psu handle my setup with that added, 125w seems like alot for a CPU. As I said before, I have a 600-700w PSU, I really can't remember, I am looking for the box. Second, that quad is a 2.6ghz my dual is 2.8,  isnt that going to hurt me for non quad games?

But the thing is that he doesnt need to upgrade the issue will still be there. Ghost_loy all you sould have to do is set the hl2.exe under processes under the windows task manger, set the affinity to one cpu. Wait before you upgrade because in 1st Q of 2009 AMD will release their new X4's which will be 35% faster and efficent. Also your cpu will play any game for the next year with any issues.

well you could run a 4870x2 on a 700w so i think this dude will be ok.

This sucks, the fan I bought is not going to work....That thing is huge, and unfortunately with the way my case is designed I would have to remove my 360m fan from the side just to get the cpu fan to fit. I do't suppose anyone else has any good fans to suggest that don't require the removal of the mobo.Ghost_loy
