I'm going to admit I've never been much of an FPS fan until a couple of years ago. I've never played Halo. I've never played CoD, partially because its fanbase attracts so many younger kids who WANT 2 PLAY TEH H4RDC0R3 BIG BOI GAEMZ ZOMG and insult the sexuality of everybody they encounter.

But I've heard so many good things about CoD4 that I'm tempted to try it out. My question is, does the single-player campaign alone make it worth it? I don't play online multiplayer, so I'd just be paying for the campaign. Should I try it or just forget it?

no. it's a great campaign, but far too short if it's the only thing you'll be playing :)

Depends on how much the game costs. Over here (Holland), the price is still set at 30 euros. I also prefer single player myself, and in that respect I wouldn't pay more than 10 euros/dollars for a Call of Duty game.

The multiplayer is the best feature in COD4, so no it's not worth it especially considering the campaign is REALLY short.

If that was the case CoD would really be the worst game I've played in the last few years. The SP is quite cinematic and has a dumb as **** story that somehow keeps you entertained the whole way through. Worth it if you find it cheap, but don't pay more than 20 quid for it.

It's been on sale before.. if you can get it for $20 or so, sure. The campaign is plenty fun. I don't know why you would just refuse to try the multiplayer aspect, though.

Paying more than 10 dollars for a 6 hour campaign is waste of money.

I guess the consensus is that I'll still be skipping it.

Thanks, guys.

There's not NEARLY as many trash talkers on the PC compared to the consoles. Most of the time I play, there's no one talking

Nope. Campaign is short and just teaches you basics. Multiplayer is where you're expected to waste your time.

Nope, the single player isn't its strong point.

You'll begin to have a blast with the singleplayer but once you are at your peak of enjoying it, it ends :(

I think it is worth it. I liked COD4 SP better than the MP.

I wouldn't. It's one of the few games I regret buying. I'd heard so much good (hype?) so, like a sucker, I bought it during a Steam sale for about $12. I played for about an hour or two and then promptly deleted it. I honestly think I would have gotten more enjoyment had I simply set my $12 on fire and watched the pretty colors burn.

Not my kind of FPS at all.

It seems like a lot of people are forgetting how good the single player mode was (must be all the bias after they heard dedicated servers being removed from MW2 ;) )

Anyway read 99% of MW1's reviews and you will see that it has a REALLY good campaign.

Daytona_178

Except that its linear and chock full of infinitely spawning dimwitted AI. From a gameplay point of view its somewhat like running through a highly scripted and cinematic shooting gallery.
