CoD 4 perk system with the experience system is awesome + airstrikes and helicopters. You can run and gun by yourself, stay with your team, or stay back and guard. The multiple game types really give it some longevity also.
TF2 is different in the way that it's always team based and without some team work you're not gonna always win.
haven't played UT3
COD4 FTW!
So I bought Crysis and was under-whelmed by its multi player, although its got a great concept, it's execution is faar from flawless.
Now I'm really interested in picking up another FPS primarily for multiplayer play. This holiday season there are so many chooses and I just couldn't choose. I'm just looking for some opinions on each game. To me it looks like this :
CoD 4 - Being in a modern setting, I'm very interested in CoD 4, not to mention the series is famous for having great multiplayer. The ranking system sounds addictive. But I wonder how realistic is the MP gameplay? I used to play G.R.A.W. (PC) for quite a bit and really liked how lethal the weapons were (ignoring how unbalanced some of the stuff was) How does CoD 4 match up on the realism front? Is CoD 4 really that much better than CoD 2's multiplayer?
UT 3 - I love the speed the new UT has, it's exactly what I wished UT always more. It's more Quake than UT though, and that's not a bad thing in my opinion. I'm just not so sure of the rest of the game. VCTF doesn't look terribly interesting and I don't particularly like vehicular combat anyway. Not to mention the horrible UI. TF 2 - Unique ****s, beautiful visual ****and good balance, this game seems great! And I've hardly seen any note-worthy criticism against the game besides a lack of maps. Is there anything that holds this game back? Does it get boring easily? Also since TF2=The Orange Box, I get Portal (which I've already finished at a friend's place) and HL 2 EP 2 (I'm not a big fan of the series anyway). It's a plus but a minor one.
Decided I'd add a poll as well, but I'm mostly looking for specific opinions on each game. Thanks in advance.

If this is a versus thread, no game can possibly compare to fast[est] paced skill-required Unreal series. Not even close.
Out of COD4 and TF2 I would have to give the edge to TF2.
Don't get me wrong, COD4 is a great multiplayer experience. However, what bothers me most about the game is the balance. I like the idea of unlocking new weapons and accessories, but I felt that it just ruined the balance of the game. I mean, how in the world does a person snipe with upc40? Also there needs to be a new system for heli's and airstrikes, or at least nerf the damage on those. Or give the losing team, if they are losing by a huge margin, access to air support.
As for TF2, while it is not realistic looking, it certainly has what COD4 lacks: balance. I like the fact that classes have their specialities, and also areas to exploit. Also, the fact that you need teamwork makes the game, for me at least, the best mp experience of the year.
UT3: eh I have yet to play it.
My vote is to Quake Wars: has vehicles and good balance between this ones and the infantry, has asymetrical skills and weapons, has classes and demands both skill and teamwork to do the objectives.
COD would probably my election in PC between the other three, but has a big mistake: to put 32 players into maps to 16 players and adding grenadespawning. In fact, is more close to Quake III Arena than BF2, which is better mp if you like to play in Infantry Only servers.
I don't have the Orange Box so I can't comment on TF2, but between UT3 and CoD 4 I would say UT3. Main problem I have with UT3 is that there seems to be a lack of people playing online.
UT3 is MADE for online, but you will probably be overwhelmed by some of the people who have been playing the series for a while.
If you start Tf2 everyone is fairly new to the game, so you won't really meet too many people that are amazingly good at the game.
Well i have played all three and i would go with Cod4 followed closely by Ut3,
Cod4 is just an awesome experince anyone who has a medium to high end machine should have this game in their collection.
When Cod2 first came out it was a good game but the mods and custom maps made it great and the same can be said after cod4 settles in.
All in all it really depends what servers u go into if you're looking for realism, some servers are alll about realism some are all about spray and pray its up to u.
COD4 is alright online but it was late to the party. Being a BF2 player for years and dabbling in other modern fps games pretty much burned me out on the modern setting. While I like it, something different was needed for the time being.
UT3 well it's pretty much made for the small community of dudes that play it. I always thought the community was a bunch of smug jerks that get off on killing newbies to the series. What? Too fast for ya? Go back to Quake n00blar! *snort* F-YEAH!
This is the year of TF2. TF is back and is even better than before. It's fast paced and team supported. It's easy to get into and there is something for everyone. Awesome intense maps. The characters ooze with personality which makes the game fun in it's own way. Seeing a pyro run by setting dudes on fire and shouting victory is something that changed my life forever. It added a new level to multiplayer gaming for me, and it has been the most fun I have had in years of multiplayer fps games.
Hey man, press enter a few times, your post is a little un-easy on the eyes.
Anyway, I would say CoD4 or TF2, I voted TF2 because it was the least 'consoleized', but CoD4 is still very fun. You can't really go wrong with either one, but if you are gonna get TF2 individually, and not the orange box all together, then get TF2, simply because it's 20 bucks and you'll have just as much fun with it. My fave. and best class is the Medic.
I've had too many rants about CoD4 and it's flaws, despite how much I love the game, and I'll post a blog soon so I don't have to make more great walls of text, but believe me, you are gonna be pissed about the way IW handled realism. It's AWESOME in single player, but nerfed to hell in multi-player, especially with sniper rifles.
Sorry my bad, GS hates Opera. I addedHey man, press enter a few times, your post is a little un-easy on the eyes.

Sorry my bad, GS hates Opera. I added
tags, and when I previewed it looked fine. I'll edit it again. Lemme guess, are the sniper rifles like the ones in BF 2?kutty12000
It's not as bad as BF2, but it could be a lot better, compared to BF2 it's not that bad, but it will still irritate ya.
For me, TF2 > CoD4.
I got both games, tf2 is better game overall (MP-wise). It is greatly balanced, very creative visual design, few maps but with a good layout.
When i first started i though "wth, 9 classes, how is that gonna do any good to a game?".. and i was wrong =D, every class is put to good use! Competitive play is gonna be really nice also! :)
Never was a big fan of HL 2 games. Linearity is not fun.... Not to mention incumbent A.I. and boring A.I. Of course Portal was just awesome and as I mentioned, I finished that at a friend's place. I think I'll keep my purchasing options open for now, although looks like I'll be getting it in the near future. If you dont have the Orange Box yet:
1.) Slap Yourself
2.) Buy it NOW, Beeeyotch!!!!!

omg. UT3 sucks. i hate it so much. the only REALLY amazing thing about it is the voice going "HEADSHOT" and "DOUBLEKILL" and stuff like that. but the rest of the game - nah thank you.... the pace is just too damn fast, the little amount of players whio play online is too good, the weapons are all, and i mean ALL crappy. they look crap, sound crap, and produce crap. omg never have i seen a rocket launcher that sucks as much as UTs. not to mention that slimy piece of **** "Bio Gun" holy **** oh ya i forgot: the singleplayer campaign. which really isnt one. all it does is make u play thorugh the different MP gametypes and add a bit of movie to it. argh i hate it.
TF2??? i dont have it. i saw the video review on gamespot and thought: no, maybe not???!!! as goes for UT3: no realism whatsoever. hate the visuals, hate the gameplay. hell i'll play mario smash brothers b4 TF2.
CoD has the BEST, most realistic, awesome singleplayer i've ever seen. it manages to create an incredible atmosphere. but this is sposed to be about MP. call of dutys MP is so unbelievably rewarding! i used to play BF2, but the ranking takes AGES. i have a total of 90 ours of gameplay and managed to unlock about 3/4 of the weapons. now for CoD, there is soooo much to unlock and play around with, i've just been playing for like 10 ours and already have a tone of unlocks, perks, weapons, camouflage and everything.
because of the extreme realism, beautiful graphics, stunning audio, incredible atmosphere and fantastic ranking system, i'd definetely chose COD
TF2 is very, very, very fun. Simple, straightforward, streamlined fun, but fun.Makari
That's why it only stays fun for about 2 months, it was just to simple and slow in the end to keep me hooked. I rarely play it anymore.. but while I did, I did have a lot of fun.

I agree. I like the soldier but his speed is extremely slow. So i play the demoman, which is good, but its hard to get comfortable with shooting grenades instead of rockets. Medic can get boring, even though its fast. The scout is fast, and I love playing it, but it has low health and dies quickly.
TFC was pretty fast. TF2 is slowed down considerably. I lost interest after about three months, but I might get back into it later. Unless Far Cry 2 hooks me...

You REALLY REALLY need to learn what realism is , call of duty 4 is NOT realistic at all , and the multiplayer isnt realistic
TC if you want to play a realistic game set in modern day i suggest armed assault or operation flashpoint.

Edit : TF 2 is clearly ahead in the polls, anyone got any issues or gripes with the game. Looking for negatives on TF 2. Thanks again.kutty12000
COD4 is very good but IMO you should get Unreal 3, way more fast and fun. Plus, all the mods are endless.
And yeah Crysis multiplayer is ok, its the singleplayer thats worth it.
