COD MW2 & Steam Questions

I just got MW2 for PC today but something is ticking me off, STEAM.

I have to update steam, but the problem is i am at boarding school and usually we can't update anything. Now i used my iPhone as a Wireless Modem but took at least 100MB of Data. Is there anyway how to update without the iPhone or will i have to wait?

I have several games and they can also be bought on steam and i have heard they have achievements. Is it possible to get achievements with the games i bought?

That didn't make a lot of sense.

Why would you buy a call of duty game for singleplayer anyways? 60$ isn't worth 5 hours.

I didn't wait for Black Ops because my Laptop could not run it, it needs a Tri Processor i only have a duo processor. plus COD MW2 was only $40

not really minium requirements need a Intel Core 2 Duo or a AMD Phenom x3, i don't understand why it cant take my AMD Turion Ultrax2 (2.5GHz). Everything else i am ok with, Enought RAM, Space, Plenty of GPU Speed. put CPU doesn't match up

That depends on the game. This list covers all of the games that you can buy retail and add to Steamworks (for achievements).

You would have been able to run it fine, I ran MW2 at a singlecore 1.6 ghz CPU, HD 2400 Pro GPU and 1.5 GB of RAM. I had it maxed out, no lag at all.
