We'll just have to wait and see. Maybe Treyarch can rekindle my long lost love towards WW2 shooters.
Maybe.

Really? Well I actually liked United Offensive... Guess we can't write off Treyarch just yet.

I think CoD: UO is the best. Anyway CoD:WaW doesn't look as bad as I expected.[QUOTE="shalashaska88"][QUOTE="biggest_loser"][QUOTE="shalashaska88"]We'll just have to wait and see. Maybe Treyarch can rekindle my long lost love towards WW2 shooters.

The people are starting to warm to it!
Treyarch and I are winning the public back!! :D
Sounds good, but they should let us be the germans and the japanese
Artosa
Interesting point - I hope the Japanese are not portrayed as just evil - a movie called Letters From Iwo Jima gave a very different (and perhaps more realistic) view of Japanese soldiers in WWII.
Loser, it's great to hear from ya again, not sure if you remember me. I see your still taking pride in every thread you make :)
The game looks great. However, the fact about Treyarch making CoD:UO seemed a little funky to me. If you look at the details here on Gamespot, you'll see they've labeled UO's developed as Gray Matter, the studio resposible for Return to Castle Wolfenstein...... Whatever. IW is great, but remember that CoD3 wasn't on PC, but was still a very good WW2 game.

How was that film? I figger anything with Clint as director is worth watching!

Of course I remember you ...and our many GTA: San Andreas debates :P
I shall investigate this cover up about the developer however. Surely IGN wouldn't have gotten that wrong.
All I read about COD3 on console was that it was good but it just lacked a little bit of polish.
gametrailers has some nice...trailers for the game. it looks interesting; somehow, it seems the graphics aren't as good as those in cod4 - that's probably not the case, but something looked a bit off with the game (edit: i think it's the expressionless faces; but the trees and stuff look really nice). i dunno. since iw isn't developing this one, i'm not THAT excited, but at least the setting will be different from all other ww2 shooters.

Looks like another rat-in-a-maze rail shooter that you watch more than play. Can't really expect anything else from the COD series, though.
Wonder if the levels will be plagiarized from film, novels, and TV as blatantly as they were in previous COD games. The scene from the Makin Atoll level described above sounds like it was pulled straight from a 1940s movie called Gung Ho! (not the 80s one with Michael Keaton). I'm sure we can expect to see levels pulled straight from some old John Wayne pics like Fighting SeaBees and Sands of Iwo Jima as well as from newer works like Thin Red Line and the two Clint Eastwood flicks.
As for BL's contention that Flags of Our Fathers offers up a more realistic portrayal of Japanese soldiers during WWII, that's simply not the case. I lived in Japan for 10 years, speak the language and went to see the film there with some Japanese friends (two of whom are history teachers) and they all thought it was very poorly done. The consensus was that Clint either didn't understand the mindset of the Japanese soldier at all or that he consciously changed the way they spoke and behaved so that Western audiences could empathise with them.
I'm still waiting for a good Pacific Theatre game. MOH:PA had some nice levels and touches, but overall it was mediocre (and the flying levels were god-awful!), Hidden and Dangerous had two fantastic levels which took place in Burma, but two levels wasn't enough. Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theatre was pretty damned good for a budget title, but suffered from some really bad AI. I never played any of the History Channel ones, so I can't comment on those other than to say that they look bed enough that I have no interest in ever trying them.
Yo, check this out:
Treyarch is convinced this won't suffer from Yet Another World War II Shooter ennui, mostly because much of the game is set in the Pacific theatre rather than Europe. It's been done before, most notably by EA's leaden Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, but there's a single phrase which defines this new approach - 'survival horror.'
Your Japanese enemies are not simple reskins of COD4's insurgents - they're a different type of foe entirely, with their own devious AI, designed to evoke the fearlessness and unflinching dedication of the Imperial Japanese Army. Think the Vietcong, but in the 1940s. This indefatigable foe lies in wait, in pits and in trees, not moving a muscle until an unaware Yankee passes. If faced with insurmountable odds, rather than staying behind cover they'll suicide charge the enemy with bayonets - they might only take down one guy in the process, but that guy might well be you.
While CODs to date have favoured a bombastic shooting gallery of pop-up baddies charging in waves, the idea in WAW's Pacific levels is that every scrap of scenery is a potential trap. Paranoia will be your main driving force. Every corpse could be faking it, every tree could hide a sniper, each patch of long grass is a potential death-trap. Which is why flamethrowers are so important. Oh yes, flamethrowers. Traditionally a preposterous archetype of sillier shooters, in WAW they have an accurate and essential purpose. In an oppressive locale of dense trees and tall grass, fire is your best hope of flushing out hidden threats. Which means new hotness for the graphics engine - palm leaves wither and collapse, their burning branches igniting the grassland below when they hit the floor. Wooden barriers are vulnerable and destructible too, which should mean a canny evolution of COD4's shoot-through-the-scenery shtick.
Reinforcing WAW's fire theme, Molotov cocktails and flame tanks will play a part in this war-ending siege. While Treyarch is pretty tight-lipped on details for now, this was a time when the vengeful Russians were positively baying for German blood - couple that with WAW's mature rating and we're likely in for a dramatically more brutal take on the WW2 FPS.Treyarch refused to share details on the plotline (beyond hinting there'll be some celebrity voices), but it seems unlikely the Russians' path of murder and rape across Germany will be entirely reflected.

It has been forever since I've seen that movie. Next time I watch it, I'll try to see what parts you say they stole for the game. Honestly, I don't remember it that well.

enemies that don't move a muscle while lying in wait, suicide charge at the enemies - funny how this new devious a.i. sounds like all the bad a.i. of the past. :P

United Offensive? No Gray Matter did that...Tryarch have only made CoD2: Big Red One and CoD3
Gray Matter was acquired and combined to Treyarch.
i'm not terribly interested in World at War; i would instead look forward to a quality CoD4 expansion pack....don't see it coming tho.
