Want to get multiplayer game that lasts a long time and doesn't feel empty.

What I mean by "doesn't feel empty" is that somehow, playing the game feels satisfying, like you are accomplishing something. Playing CS 1.6 would feel empty to me. First of all, it's old. Second, I'd just be pubbing, and pubbing feels empty unless there's some kind of ranking system or the game is more social than most games or something.

So, what would you recommend?

how come you guys aren't playing it then?

I'm looking for a game that would be more interesting to play than waste time on GameSpot.

Well, it depends what type of games your interested in. CoD4 is more tactical, TF2 is more arcade-like. I like CoD4 a bit better, but thats my opinion. The best thing to do is to go to a friend's house and try them out. They are too different.

I've played 28.2 hours in the last two weeks -126 hours total.

It's the only FPS I've ever found fun and worth playing online. And I want to stress that word fun. I love every minute of it.

But if you don't already own TF2, does this mean you don't own The Orange Box? Ni Portal????

Do yourself a favour and buy it today! TF2 is the best multiplayer FPS I've ever played. Portal is one of the most hilarious and most delightfully original games I've ever played.

And Episode 2. Episode 2 sucks.

i don't know but i play CSS all the time on a pub sever and it's really fun. The server has it own ranking and there're a lot of fun guys that are on regularly. But if you don't like cs then you should go with tf2. CoD4 multiplayer is a pain, I get the connection time out thing 50% of the time when trying to connect to some server.

Oh some other games you should try out. StarCraft, CSS, BF2.

PS: If you wanna find out what the most popular PC games are, check out http://www.xfire.com/games/, then click on rank.

Except steam friends is better than xfire. And if you play TF2, you have steam friends already loaded. Which makes xfire useless.

TF2 is by far a more well rounded multiplayer experience. If you get bored with one class, you have 8 others to choose from. And COD4 is the same multiplayer experience FPS gamers have been having for the past decade.

CSS nice graphics and more social than COD4 because there is no constant arcade respawn

(yes, I know mods can change this in COD4 but the majority doesn't )

TF2 by far, much better than COD4, although COD4 is still rather fun, and I can't think of any other recent multiplayers that have been astounding.

I havent played TF2 for a while now. CoD4 is pretty much the only game I've been playing online. Besides the occasional surf map in CCS.

Either way you get a good gamae, I prefer TF2 because of it's cartoony atmosphere and wacky characters. Dom't forget you are comparing a "lone-wolf" mp game to a class based mp game!

TF2 since it can last forever. The custom maps for TF are excellent and alot of people play them. The problem with COD4 is that no one plays custom maps although some are better than the official ones.

It depends, if you want a realistic game with good graphics, tactical, with lots of upgrade possibilities, maybe even stealth action ;), go for COD4, if you want a fun game with funny characters, good graphics, good maps, go for TF2. They both make you smile when you die :) COD makes you smile, a lil ironically, like, hmm lol didn't expect that, or lol walked straight onto that grenade/claymore, or even lol i'll get you after i'll respawn >:)(muhahahaha!!!). If you die in TF2 you laugh :) although it's a carnage online, the game is extremely fun and boy to you start to be happy when you see green writing (critical hit:D), another funny thing about TF2 is that when you die and get blown to pieces, the game freezes and if any parts ar in the view it appears on the screen (you leg, your arm, your head XD). COD4 is realistic, fun and tactical, TF2 is fun, fun, fun, both of them are very good games and any of those would be good, it's up to you if you want tactic and fun or just fun and bulling :P 1heavyx3doctors.

The part with the custom maps is wrong (COD4) there are plenty of servers with custom maps, i personally play on a 64 players server that has over 30 custom maps and always ads new ones (kinda bad for the hdd though:( i have more than 1.5 gb of COD4 maps and i have more and more with every day)

I prefer TF2. COD 4 was a lot of fun, but after the first week or 2 after I got level 55 I realized that I made myself sick of the game, and also didn't feel I have a reason to play anymore. TF2 is awesome whether you want to play for 30 minutes or 3 hours. And the new updates will make the game even more fun. If you don't know, the updates will make each class have unlockable abilities that you can switch out to make the class play a different way. This is more interesting than some games (COD 4) where when you rank up all you get is a slightly more accurate weapon... instead you will get something that totally changes the gameplay experience.

I am from Romania and in the interval 10-100 (ping) i have arround 800 servers available, without the empty ones arround 450 so a lot of servers and it is in perfect conditions, TF2 runs good even at 140ms, add another 300 servers(but this is in extreme conditions). So don't fear there are loads of European servers with low ping ;).

thanks, cool, i got top score today in cod4 at ~215 ping today so under 200 is good for me. it just happens that the eastern european servers appear to be best from my location (considering server population, admins, and maps) with a good ping

Yeah lol for some reason the most Call of duty 4 servers in this region are russian:). i remember i played on a server with 200 ping (don't know why because the first 100 servers have less than 70 ping) and i knifed a guy 8 times before he died :D.

TF2 no doubt, I have COD4 and I haven't touched it in weeks and I am really good at it. COD4 doesn't have the feel that TF2 does, where you have a favorite clan server that you know everybody on.

Team Fortress 2 by far. CoD4 seems to have attracted a lot of homophobic racists that CS and Halo suffered from. Though I could just have terrible luck finding servers.

ghaaa, you confirmed it. I shouldn't get either. After enjoying Halo2 to its full potential when it was at its peak, a gamer simply can't appreciate clicking on a server from a list of hundreds and trying to get more kills than deaths. ghaaaaaaa

You know, grammar is a great thing and helps people understand the point that you are trying to get across.

Anyways, TF2 is personally my choice over the two. For some reason, you can die all you want but you never get pissed off for dying in the game. You just work as a team and keep going to either win graciously or lose with honour. As for your Halo 2 comment, if that is your preferred gaming type then head over to the 360 and play Halo 3. The PC version was absolutely horrible and the Xbox version was really no better.

I am not a big fan of either but I will try to help you the best I can. CoD4 is more individual based and plays like a more actiony version of Counter Strike with more map, character and gametype options. TF2 is more team based, from what I played other than the Scout and the Spy the classes were easy to learn and played somewhat simple with only a few tricks between them. However on a good server where you are working as a team and each player knows what the other is doing and what he is supposed to do gives this great 'teamwork' feeling that few other games have. There is nothing like switching to be the only medic on your team and then leading your team to victory. On the other hand when you are in a group of idiots where you have four snipers and everyone is doing their own thing the game can get boring rather quickly.

Personally I prefer BF2142 as it feels like a mix of both. You have the customization and the more 'realistic' gameplay of CoD4 and the teamwork of TF2. I prefer the character customization options in BF2142 than CoD4 because choosing whether I should have a shotgun or a rocket add-on feels more substantial other than arbitrary feeling 'to hit' and 'health' bonuses. Teamwork is not as strong as TF2 and mostly revolves around following orders and distributing medical/ammunition supplies with the usual play the map mechanics (ie. covering you friends six) What makes the game great are the gametypes and the diversity of situations possible. Although there are only two gametypes they play differently than each other, you have your close up action conquest maps and your spread out Titan maps with both of them feeling different. Then you have all the crazy situations that you can get into, just last game the enemy infiltrated our positions and was spawning all around, leading to an insane and confused situation.
