Hey this is the first time i got this... weird. Once i join a server i can play like 20 or 30 seconds and then i get kicked, and this is from all the punkbuster servers. I don't hack, I don't try to do any piracy of games... i don't know why I always get this message. What is the unknown error?
Well i know CoD4 patch came out but my computer doesnt let me manually update it because my Cod4 is digital download from steam. And steam hasnt released the patch yet... well at least for me...
you don't, steam does that automatically if it needs to. From what I've seen there are some issues right now with cod 4 on steam, punkbuster, game unavailable etc. Might take a few days before things are right, but I don't think punkbuster will fix that message soon.
Disabling the Steam community in-game worked for me, you have to do it while not in the game I found. In the Steam menu choose File --> Settings --> In-Game and unselect "Enable Steam Community In-Game".
My problems started when Steam updated me to 1.2 automatically.
I just got that message for the first time today as well..... it didn't kick me till the end of the match and i still got the points for it..... good to see i am not the only one that got it (I have been having some issues with my computer lately, so i thought it had something to do with that)
Im really glad i found this. i havent been able to play cod4 for over ... well almost 2 weeks due to this error. I was soooooo mad. I hate punkbuster and think there should be a way to play without it. cuz it sux
Go into into the Steam settings & disable Steam Community. It should work.TheFLCLPope88
Yep I got the same message, disabled Steam Community and haven't been kicked since.
It will automatically update itself. I have the Steam version as well. Won't update the same day but usually in 24 hours. You'll see it one day when you open Steam, you notice under "Status" for CoD4 it will say updating.
open steam, at the bottom click "settings", then click on the "in-game" tab, then uncheck "enable steam community in-game", click "ok"... that should do it

but I tried disabling steam, updating PB, and turning off firewall. I've had this message since about a year and it's pissing be off now. I was at version 1 ( same error message still ) vresion 1.6 and 1.7 still the same error!!! ANY HELP?!?!?!!?
HEY GUYS!!! I HAVE RESOLVED THE ISSUE WITH REGARDS TO THE KICKING OUT OF COD4 BECAUSE OF PUNKBUSTER. THE SOLUTION WHICH I DID WAS TO REMOVE SOME OF THE GRAPHICS SETTINGS IN MY COD4. APPARRENTLY THERE IS SOME ISSUE WITH PUNKBUSTER AND AMBX (not sure what that is). Anyways....
TIPS: FOR A START, REMOVE ALL GRAPHICS SETTINGS FOR COD4. ENJOY!
yah well the problem is my steam account was deleted by a virus and whenever i try to play cod4 on any server i get thsi message "PB initialization failed check PB settings" I tried to download a pubkbuster update but it says that i have no internet. The virus did'nt delete anything off of cod4 except my rank :( but i worked my way up again to a lvl 55. Can any1 help me with this because punkbuster staff are **** annoying.

where do u find this steam menu? and by the way im not sure that i downloaded it from steam cause i dont know what steam is :( can someone explain pls!!!
