Well, the release on steam was filled with problems. Not to mention we had to wait until 3 pm for the game to even open. To fix the problem, i had to redownload all of the cod4 content. There are tons of angry steam users currently searching for solutions.

Here's a solution: Buy it somewhere else... You should know by now what potential baggage comes with a steam purchase. I got Half Life 2 Silver when it was released and Orange box from steam and neither has given me any problems. In fact, steam has been good for me for the most part, but tales of this nature are not uncommon. Know the nature of the beast before you ride it :)

WHy do people keep buying off Steam?? If there is a thread or post about Steam it is a negative one, all you ever hear is problems. There are other alternatives to that piece of crap.

I had to buy off Steam cuz I had no alternatives. I can't get the box version and direct2drive just wouldn't release it, last time I checked it was still on "pre-purchase"...

lol of course, people dont make threads when everything is fine. They come here and make a topic when something is wrong, but if you made a poll and asked "have you had a good experience with steam", alot of people would say yes. On topic now, preordering or preloading games from steam isnt all that great, especially when they are not from valve, so i suggest you always wait a little while before downloading a freshly released game.

Blame the developers for poorly implementing steam with the game. It's not Valves fault because Infinity Ward/Activision half assed the launch on steam.

For me it would be more expensive to buy it of steam than it would to go to a store and buy it in a box. That kinda take away the incentament to buy it of steam to me.

I personally love steam and have bought many a fine game off it. But in reguards to COD4 on steam theres just no way Im paying $69.99 before vat, which is around $82 ( £39 ) with vat here for people in the UK and some other european countrys. Not perticually blaiming valve for this pricing as its down to activision. Almost as if they wanted to put people off buying from steam :( .

bought the game via online mail order for £28.99 including vat and P&P :) ( $60 )

Steam was SOO good, UNTIL NOW! I'm re-downloading the game, and god I am so pissed, I loved how they automaticaly updated everything, and that most of the time, they have awesome deals, not to mention pre-loads, so I figured "hey, who cares if I get it a week later, I'm getting other games this week anyway, and I'm still addicted to TF2, which I got off of steam, and everything is fine"

BOOM, CoD4 is here, and I"m all "OMFG IT IS TIME" and then "ERROR: Game is Unavailable"

sure games have had problems on Steam before, but they were easy to fix

this one, is like the thread says

EPIC FAIL!

This isnt a suprise. As much as I love the often cheaper price of Steam, every big release this year has been riddled with annoying and frustrating problems.

I downloaded it on steam and am still waiting to play it. At first it said it was 100% downloading. I preloaded it overnight. It kept telling me the game was unavailable. I deleted then reinstalled, it started at 90%. It completed then I tried to play and it said sysconfig file was missing. I ran the validate game files and it restarted downloading at 70%. I am still downloading and still waiting.

i have not had one problem with steam, what-so-ever. didnt get the "server is too busy" error with Hl2 ep2 or anything, Jericho was available a day before it should of been (have no idea how, just started decrypting). i love steam, only reason i am beginning to hold back from buying now is the game files are getting too large for my **** DSL connection...its becoming easier to just buy the disc so re-installing doesnt mean re-downloading.

You speak of it as if it was a general rule. For some people they play quite fine.

It's funny, but I've never had the slighest problem with Steam. That could also be because I don't use it that much. :P

I have been playing pc games for years. This is the first game that after TWO DAYS of trying to get it to LAUNCH I have be unsuccsesful. From what I read alot of people have issues. This might go down as the worst launch in the history of gaming.
