Finally just got it cause of my new rig... yeah, it's simply one of the BEST. I can't even play C&C 3 because of it (meaning, C&C seems childish) ... CoH is simply fantastic... I know that has been said a million times, but geez... what an excellent game! I really hope RTS makers are taking note! SirWeymont
Haha yeah. Bought my new rig a few months back and christened it with CoH too. Fantastic stuff. can't wait for the expansion.
Personally, I didn't think it was any special. It came with my videocard so I am not complaining. Still, I don't see how this made PC game of the year 2006. Probably because of the lack of PC games in general..

I agree,.
I gave this game a try after I got my new video card finally allowing me to play all the gamesI couldn't with my on-board GPU. So this was one of my first games tried. And boy I was dissapointed.
It is a cool game, excellent(!) blasts and I lovedhow the infantry is so... lifelike, but it just couldn't get me. I started with the campaign of course and blasting nazis was fun, but something felt wrong for for me, I had to stop after 2-3 missions. I really don't know why I couldn't enjoy this game as much as I enjoyedWarcraft 3, I played that game online for months over months, and this game was just... I dunno maybe a different pace I can't get used to. Maybe I'll give it another try someday, I'm not done with it but certainlyI will not play this game before other games like DiRT or even RCT3.
And what's revolutionary about this game? The resource system was kinda new for me, but definately not something to be implemented in every game.
It was much to slow for me to enjoy. I can play the game completely maxed out without any framerate probs but it still wasn't very impressive to look at, it wasn't uninpressive but I just don't see what is so special. The squad based "unit" is what ruined it for me. Ugh I'm so mad I bought this game without researching very much but at least I got it for like 20 bucks off 8)
Also the game is too explosive friendly, I have to have a jeep chase after a sniper for like 2 whole minutes jsut to widdle his hp down to zero, thats rediculous. The only way I can see people enjoying this game is if they are WW2 buffs or if they get geek boners from good graphics. Hey, if anyone thinks this is the best rts game ever but hates WW2 please post your opinions here, I just don't get it. =/

Actually it made PC game of the year because it was... the best game of the year. Just because you didn't think it was great doesn't mean it didn't deserve it. It had great graphics and sound, smooth control and absolutely perfect play balance. I can't think of another game that came out in 2006 that even came close.
Well, this game is great exactly because it doesn't use stereotype of massing out units and destroying your enemy. Every unit has its counter-unit, and if you're smart enough you can stop pretty much any rush. What's important in this game is tactics, and that's something I haven't seen in any other game up to date, and everything happens slow enough so that you have time to react in almost any situation, that's why this game is revultionary, and that's why it's the best game of the year, and one of the best strategies ever made. On the contrary side, there is this boring D-Day setting (the most boring part of WW2 for me), but that fades in contrast to other qualities. And, yeah, I forgot this, single-player is weak, but multiplayer shines like a supernova. Perhaps if they took some more interesting setting (like WH40k used in DOW) they would appeal to much broader audience and at the same time make SP as interesting as MP... Ah, well, perhaps a next game... Or they can just add Eastern front in another expansion... Oh, yes:twisted:stefip
i thought it was amazing.. especially the fun in the micro.. its all in the microoooo .. :Ddarkfox101Unless you suck at micro like me. :(
I would love to get the game, but I'm just so bad at it that...
I love the game to bits.
But I do admit, the game is really micro-intensive. It's a great game, but the learning curve is hardly suitable for mass appeal. But it's still a great game.
One of you guys wrote that it's too simple and maybe it is, I'm no RTS Pro and maybe it's not fast enough to be a really big game competitively, but I still see it as one of the best RTS I have ever played. Some of you wrote it's too much about placing your troops right and such but I think that is on of the charms with the game and if all RTS were Starcraft it would be a very bad gaming industry. That it's one of the most gorgeous looking and still runs well on almost all computers is one thing that makes it even more impressing. Personally I can't wait for Opposing Fronts that is coming later this year.
well dawn of war was revolutionary, CoH was dawn of war with better graphics and a WW2 settingcaptalchol
That's what I thought. Been there done that, though that's isn't a major problem (I like Dawn of War, and, sadly, innovation is out of question in this dark times) In my opinion, overhyped.
