I'm 2 days late on the party, but it's been 10 years since Company of Heroes came out for PC! Next to Warcraft 3, this was one of my favorite RTS games of all time.

I remember picking up the game at Best Buy, and rushing home to install the game. I was really into WW II history at the time, and they did an amazing job with making a RTS game out of it.

But any good stories you have from the game series? Do you still play the series?

For anyone who doesn't have it, they are having a sale on all the Company of Heroes games (and DLC). I definitely recommend picking this up!

I only spent a very small amount of time with the game - I think my PC broke down around that time and i just never got back to it.

Can't believe it's been 10 years already. I'll have to revisit this franchise!

Bought the first Company of Heroes a while ago for cheap on Steam. Still haven't played it though. Big fan of Warcraft and StarCraft.

COH ruined my ability to enjoy traditional RTS games. It was ahead of its time and only Relic have been able to come close to it since (well, maybe Massive as well with World in Conflict). I still play CoH 2 multiplayer a few times a week.

now it seems they are going back to the more traditional RTS route with DoW 3... these RTT games were fun while they lasted

Yes, I have them, except expansions for CoH2. I love the game! It's the best RTS game all time I believe! Actually, I hardly got interested into RTS games when I was young. I found some annoying things in classical StarCraft, was bad at it; gave up on RTS games. However, some years later, I figured out that CoH is a WWII RTS game. I'm obsessed about WWII... I wanted to play a RTS game again, especially CoH! Right now, I'm playing it.

So, maybe, I will buy the expansions for CoH2.

Not only was CoH ahead of its time when it was released, I'd say that it's still ahead of it's time right now. Somehow they nailed the micro vs. macro management balance perfectly, something every other RTS to tries it struggles to do. No other RTS feels as rewarding as CoH because it's broad enough to make you feel like a commander of a large force, but focused enough for you to feel like your tactics of individual units matter.

It wouldn't run well on my crappy Celeron 1.7 GHz so I never really got into it. Wish they did a remaster or something.

I still play both CoH games to this day.

CoH for total overhaul mods like the Great War or Blitzkrieg, CoH 2 for matchmaking 3v3 and 4v4

I loved COH 1 for its singleplayer. And with COH 2 I put so many hours into the multiplayer.

The squad system in these games is what puts it ahead of other RTS, but driving a tank around, now that's a blast !

Can not wait for Company of Heroes 3 :P

@R4gn4r0k: Company of Heroes 3 would be an instant day 1 purchase for me!

Well spoken. CoH incorporates these two opposites nigh flawlessly.

Game's a beast. Too bad CoH2 wasn't as good.

I don't agree (unless you are talking about the campaign). Some of the improvements in CoH 2 especially how line of sight works makes it hard for me to go back to CoH 1. I liked the snow stuff as well but its been greatly scaled back in MP (ice/deep snow still plays a role on some maps though).

looking at the multiplayer of the two games side by side, I'd rather play 2. However 1 has the better campaign and was definitely the more impressive/groundbreaking game when it came out. But, 2 is the one I have over 700 hours in.

I'm referring the the campaign mostly. The difficulty ramped way too far, too fast. It was just overall not nearly as polished or balanced (IMO) as the first, and I don't care for the MP, never have. If it was out of the campaign, at most it was a skirmish.
