Both games are regarded as the best games (of their generation) in their respective genres by many people. Both games feature superb graphics, destructible environments and a focus on tactical gameplay.

But, which game does it all better in your opinion?

Oh, and anyone who knows me should know that I haven't played Crysis...

We've already had this type of topic twice in the last 2 months. And everytime most people agreed that you can't compare the 2 games. They are both excellent in their own genre.

I dont intend to be controversial or anything but i find Company of Heroes to be boring. Ive bought it and only bothered to play 1 skirmish map. It is difficult and looks nice etc but i guess ive grown out of RTS.

Company of heroes.

Its a bit of a redundant thread since they are from two different genres (obviously)

i dunno why people say that you can't compare games of different genres. if you were to ask, 'which game is better: company of heroes or daikatana', i'm sure most people would have no problems answering that company of heroes is the better game. besides, if that were true (that you can't compare games of different genres), then we won't be able to answer the 'what's the best game of all time' threads that always seem to pop up every week or so. but people don't seem to have any problems answering them.

Crysis is one of the best FPS games. Company of Heroes is one of the best RTS games. When most people compare these 2 games, it's not so much about which game is better but more about which genre they like more.

that may be true, but i don't think it's impossible to be somewhat objective in comparing games of different genres. game websites often rank the best games of all time and each year name the best game of that particular year. i'm not saying there isn't a degree of subjectivism involved, but i do think it's possible to compare games of different genres and come to a conclusion as to which is better.

While you cannot objectively compare the qualities of each game directly (because they are far too diverse and unique), you certainly can compare the games in terms of your overall experience with each game.

For example, Crysis will probably give a much better experience than, say, Big Rigs.

So, while you perhaps can't say which of the two is better - for they cannot be compared - the experience each games gives can certainly be compared.

And, right across the board, I got a better experience out of Crysis than I did out on Company of Heroes.

That being said, neither game could serve as a replacement for the other, so I don't see any reason for someone to choose one or the other.

Crysis gave me by far a better experience, though.

personally i prefer CoH to Crysis. I tire a little of FPS games after a while but don't get bored of SP skirmishes on CoH. My personal preference is just geared towards strategy - but they are both great games.

i think CoH is a lot less demanding though - it still looks great on systems that are a couple years old wheras crysis looks average on medium settings. i can only just run crysis on high (and then with a lot of sub-settings turned down) on my rig.

For me it depends on what mood I'm in. If I feel like commanding soldiers and do some strategic stuff, I'd rather play COH. If I feel like shooting something myself, I'd rather play Crysis. Each of these games can offer me something that the other can't. That's why I can't compare them in the way that this topic wants me to.

I have to agree, I'm mainly an RTS'er, but after playing too much of that, I need a little FPS breather. If I were to play two RTS's next to another, I might find the second one more boring because I've had too much, but I could subjectively diagnose that. Now if I've only been playing RTS and suddenly I play a really crappy FPS I could think it's the best thing in the world just because it catters to what I want at the time. I know when I was playing Crysis I was in the mood for shooting short funny talking people... Heh, don't know that I should publicly annouce that :P

CoH. Crysis was ok while it lasted, which wasn't very long. I don't know about you guys, but I play a game for the fun of it, not for the fancy graphics. I might have been worth 5 bucks, yeah, nothing more.
CoH is just cool to play, that's really all I can say. :) (and I'm a rhyme master! :D)

The worst part is, once you've seen Crysis graphics, you wish the rest was like that, so in other words, Crysis made me dislike other games.....Think on that!

not comparing to each other in any way on how well they do in there respective genres. I believe Company of heros is much better. I always thought Crysis was just over-rated eye candy, and it may have been neat watching a building fall apart or watch the modes of the suit, but when I get down to it and the novelty of it all vanished I found myself putting it away in the closet.

That might suit option #5 better.

I got CoH for free with my graphics card. Four months later I finally decided to install it, an hour later it was uninstalled Crysis is nowhere near the best in the genre, but at least I had fun playing it
