Company of Heroes vs Starcraft, two most popular RTS games ever facing off each other.gogators4lifeNo no no no no no and no Oh and NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO
Thats kinda like apples and oranges.
CoH is pne of the most in depth RTS's ever made. Where its not you need X to beat Y. You just need to be smart with X and you can beat Y. MAny RTS's it seems its a big game of rock/paper/skizzors.
Yes lets compare a game made in 2006 to one made in 1998. And Starcraft wins.
What's next? Age of Empires vs Sins of a Solar Empire?
Thats an odd choice. Couldn't it at least be Dawn of War vs. Starcraft? At the very least they are both sci fi. lenson
Also the fact that Blizzard possibly derived the starcraft storyline from games workshop's story for warhammer could make them more comparable :P

Oh, and Starcraft crushes Company of Heroes.

Starcraft doesn't crush COH, it beats COH, but doesn't "crush" COH.
Starcraft is a baby RTS and Company of Heroes is a giant. Back in 1998 all RTS games followed the same formula. Resource gatherers, 2-4 types of resources, RPS gameplay, etc.. Company of Heroes is the golden product that came out of many years of "genre formation".
It's just silly to say Starcraft is a better RTS than Company of Heroes. It is a damn fine RTS for its time, but its time has passed.
I guess if you REALLY LIKE COMPETITIVE GAMING... SC might be good. But I was never particularly a big fan. I've played all of blizzards RTS games from WC1 onwards, and the only one I really enjoyed was WC3. Its too bad though that they are taking a step backwards with SC2 as its exactly the same formula as SC with different units, better graphics and normal RTS innovations. At least with WC3 they added the whole new hero and creep dynamic which I thought made ladder games very enjoyable and varied.
I love CoH and DoW series to death, really looking forward to DoW2 now...
These poll results are pretty unexpected.aliblabla2007Happened last time too I believe. We're getting older and there's new gamers everywhere, many who haven't played the greats. What I'm really wondering is how many of those who voted for Company of Heroes have played Starcraft. Everything about Starcraft when it came out (and still today is amazing). Memorable characters, perfect multiplayer, distinct and diverse races, catchy music, an epic campaign, and a simple yet power map editor. Company of Heroes on the other hand has too many issues for me to even call it a great game. The multiplayer team balance has always been a little off (especially when they introduced the expansion). For that I'd have expected stellar singleplayer, but instead there was simply a decent campaign. Relic could learn a thing or two about polishing their games properly.
You can't really compare a game from 1998 to a 2007 game...bangell99Actually yes you can. It is like comparing Final Fantasy 7 to any new turn-based RPG. It works and can usually beat any of them. It is the exact same with Starcraft (unless you dont like the game). RTSs haven't changed enough to really change the comparing. I mean FPS games have because trying to compare Doom to CoD: WaW would be pretty insane. 1 game has 1 axis and 1 has 2. It just doesn't work as well.
Company of Heroes by far, the gameplay is superior in every aspect, the graphics, physics, squad AI, tactical side but what do expect when you pit an innovative RTS from 2007 agaionst a game from 1998. StarCraft while a good polished game is one of the most over-rated games in history, it is basically a clone of Dune/C&C with a different story, the same rock/paper/scissors, build base, gather resource gameplay.
There are polenty of RTS's out there that are better than StarCraft and WarCraft but they get little recognition as they are not mainstream brutes like the Craft games. Bear in mind that this is my opinion but i found that games like HomeWorld, Cossacks. Ground Control, World in Conflict, and Company of Heroes to all have vastly better gameplay than the Craft games, they just didn't have the story or in some cases had stories too deep for the mainstream crowd.
Blizzard rarely produce a game with fresh features or deep gameplay their strength has always been in polished games that are simple and easy to get into to, they never really push the boundaries which is why in my opinion they get far more credit from reviewers than they should.
Well COH is pretty popular, it made Relic even more popular and brought Relic to the mainstream. gogators4life
I'm not so sure that it has and in a way i hope that it doesn't, look at Dawn of War II there is nothing mainstream about it, it is very different from the RTS norm. When developers become mainstream, innovation becomes smaller and smaller until the market being saturated with the same style of game over and over and over again.
relic is very popular in this particular forum, the results are not unexpected to me at all.SamiRDuranRelic is popular in every forum, gametrailers, IGN, you name it.
Starcraft is one of the most crappy RTS games I have ever played! I played it for 5 minutes and never touched it again, it was so shallow, bland and simply not fun. I don't see how anybody can like it, except koreans and people with no real taste for RTS games. It's one of the most overrated games ever, and comparing it with a game like CoH is a sin.

This thred seems kind of silly with no actual discussion about anything. BTW did anyone find RA3 unusually good for a C&C game? With no strip-mining, much less unit spam, balance and a larger variety in builds?
i would easily chose Dawn of War II over any of the blizzard games. I'm hooked on the multiplayer and everything CoH was not, DoW2 is, its fast, no building pure strategy and sometimes makes for the craziest strategies i've ever seen. Having played a lot of CoH and having followed a lot of competitive CoH i can't say how happy i was to find that they improved and adapted their formula to make Dawn of War 2 such an awesome competitive game. Its not perfect, but then again neither was starcraft or CoH when it came out (coh still isnt perfect :( ) but with time i'm sure they could polish this game up and make even more amazing. and to the guy who said that he hated starcraft, i understand. In this day in age its a game that doesnt stand a chance since its over 10 years old but at the time it was awesome and innovative especially because of the great story driven feel campeign and the classic blizzard cutscenes which were awesome. In anycase, although its just my opinion, i'd take Tyranids over Brood any day..
In my biased opinion I vote CoH
Hot_Potato
As opposed to what, a non-biased opinion? :P I'm going to have to go with CoH here as well, although Starcraft is probably the purest RTS I can think of and arguably the most well balanced.
