I was cleaning out my computer today, dusting it all out and I go to turn it on like 15mins after and it no longer turns on. I've tried plugging the power supply into different sockets and I know they work, so its not that. I have no idea what to do. There is zero lights on, so nothing indicates that there is power throughout the sytem. I. How do I approach this?

Maybe you accidentally disconnected the wire for the case power button. Check for any small loose wires near the bottom of the case. Also double check all the other connections.

It sounds like you have disconnected some wires by accident. Give them a check and ensure that they're connected fully.

I've checked all the wires and made sure everything is plugged in but still no power and absolutely no lights are on whatsoever. I have no idea what to do, but this really sucks.

What did you use to dust it? Try unplugigng all the wires, and plugging them back in. If you used a spray duster is it possible you got the mobo wet? I know sometimes I try to spray liquid out of it.

If you used canned CO2 and tilted it spraying cold frosty liquid out, you may have damage that part.

I just used a little portable vacuum to suck all the dust out of the fans. I also took out my gpu too see if tere was any dust and there wasnt, so i plugged it back in. I thought everything was good until I went to turn it on and boom nothing works. I'll try re-plugging everything in and see id that does anythig. Thanks.

That would be your best bet if you checked everthing... Even the PSU power switch on the back.

Don't use Vaccums in the future, sometimes they cause trouble. Just use an air spray or even thick brush.

Try flipping the PSU on/off switch off after you unplug your power cord from there, and try waiting at least 30 seconds. This allows the board to dissipate all power, then plug the cord back in, flip the switch back on - and make sure the board is lighting up.

Get this, its better then canned air as it has no chance of residue liquid . (I have 2 of them)

TC. remove your PSU and use the paperclip test along with say a molex powered fan, or some other device and check your psu works. http://www.overclock.net/t/96712/how-to-jump-start-a-power-supply-psu-test-a-power-supply-and-components

Do this ^^^, has worked for me in similar situations. Also, never use a vaccum. I've heard terrible things about that. I take my chance with air spray every time on that one. That, and a brush to get the fans, and in between little tiny parts.

I still reckon you missed something like a motherboard header, you'd be pretty annoyed if you bought a new PSU and your current one works perfectly.

I was thinking the same thing. It would be nice to own one, but I have an air compressor and dont use enough canned air to make it worth my while. Though i would probably use it all the time if i had one.

Reviews don't seem to be great on it, canned air, and in some cases even blow driers have better blowing force.

Just tested and my psu works, so thats out of the equation. What else could it be? Maybe mobo? Any way I can test the mobo?

Nope there plugged in, Would it be my mobo since no lights are on? The light thats on the physical power button on the mobo is off too, so I cant turn it on that way either.

there is 2 units, standard, and industrial. I have the latter, which has more then enough force for removing dust etc from a pc. It will never compare to a compressor.

How old is you computer? You may have to get a new power supply. The same thing happened to me about a year ago after cleaning mine out.

I tested my power supply and it works fine. I used the paperclip method and it powered on my case fans and dvd drive. So I guess its either my mobo or cpu. Anyway to check if the mobo is dead? Edit: Its a couple years old.

as long as you have a speaker connected to the mobo so you can hear post beeps, remove everything from it (cpu/ram) and try to power it on. it should go into a fit.

So if I have nothing but the speaker connected it should still make noise and atleast show its not dead? I'll try that in a little bit thanks.

Alright I just tried this out but still no luck. All I had plugged in was the ATX 24 pin, power switch, and the 4 pin speaker but still no lights, beeps, or anything. So I guess i'll send it in and get a new one. Hopefully my cpu is still good.

I had a computer once that wouldnt turn on either, but i unplugged everything except for the 24pin power and it turned on. Turned out the graphics card was the problem and luckily the computer had on board anyways. Even before that if i tried to turn the power on i could see the cpu fan just barely turn sometimes so i knew there was power going to the computer.

I tried just plugging the 24 pin into the motherboard to see if that would turn on but it didn't and I know the power supply is working since I tested it. So I guess it s the mobo.
