Hey, I tried installing Battlefield Special Forces on my computer, but when it was in the process of applying the patch, a box popped up with one of those red Xs that usually associated with termination programs. All i could read was something like "your computer is shutting down" or something like that, because the popup disappeared too quickly to read it all since it was shutting down. So, I tried the installation all over again, but the same thing happened. I think AVG might be the problem, so i attempt to uninstall that. Well, the shutting down popup came up again, but the next time i tried I was able to uninstall it.

So now I try installing Battlefield Special Forces again, but alas, the same thing happens once again, even without AVG on my computer. So, I try to reinstall AVG again but guess what? Yep, I can't install that neither because the same popup comes up. Sorry for the long text, but can someone please help me out here? Google hasn't come up with anything similar to my problem. Thank you.

This popup that tells me my computer is being shutdown seems to be associated with installing/uninstalling programs and applying patches, if that helps.

Sounds to me like something in Windows has gotten corrupted, or you have some sort of virus.

By the looks of it you've got a virus that's dug in pretty deep, if the virus creator had any sense he'ld have made it impossible to get rid of when it's got into your system. Just reformat and i suggest using Avast instead of AVG.

Boot into safe mode with networking. Download your anti virus. (Or download the trial version of Nod32) run the anti virus and hopefully you will eliminate the virus.

Reformat = Wipe your whole PC and start over Safe mode = Mode of windows that restricts startup to the bare minimum so if you have malware it won't run on startup

Just before Winodws starts to boot, press F8 repeatedly, a boot menu will come up that will let you choose Safe Mode.
