getting a new computer monitor and through careful concideration came down to a choice between

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009179

which would be the better choice?

I plan to use it for gaming and movies the biggest part of the time.

Well since they are both TN panels, so either fine is good, but based on experience, I would go for the ASUS.

The Acer has a much better contrast ratio, so if one of your main buying points is the quality of the movies you watch, you should definately buy the one with the better contrast ratio.

They both list dynamic ratios making either number completely useless and unreliable.

Some of the best monitors in the world meant for graphic design do not have contrast ratio higher than 830-ish.

I like the Asus - it looks sexy. Both are pretty good. I have a glossy BenQ monitor with curvey corners (oh yeaah), and a matte acer, and the glossy BenQ looks so much nicer. Also the BenQ is a tad larger at 24"
