Does the computer turn on at all, as in do the lights and fans turn on? If they are and the monitor isn't even getting a signal that's a pretty serious problem, the motherboard could be dead.

Yes, exactly. All the fans and the other things start up. My guess is also that the mobo was dead.. No idea why or how it happned though.. :( Will the other components have taken beacase of this or can i just solve the problem buy getting a new motherboard? thanks for your help.

If you smell burning, your PSU just died. Take out the GPU and turn it on, obviously it won't start-up, it will just beep, do that with every part and if it doesn't beep its either the mobo or PSU.

If its the mobo, look for broken capacitors.

Other components should be fine unless something really strange happened, just don't let them get damaged by ESD. You might also try clearing CMOS memory using either your motherboard's CMOS jumper or removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes.

Alright, I removed the gpu, and there was no beepingsound, since I already changed the cpu to another one I feel like it cant the the component behind this mess.

Clearing the CMOS didnt work either. How can i determine whether its the mobo or the psu cuasing the computer to fail?

I'd be surprised if it's the PSU considering that the fans and lights are starting normally but your monitor gets no signal whatsoever and you hear no beep of any kind. To me that says dead mobo.

perhaps the breaker switch was just set wrong.. its happened its a common problem

like if theres a lsit of 5 things that people commonly panic over its..

the red switch(breaker) on the psu has been set wrong

a loose power cable (internal or external)

the monitor cable is loose/disconnected

the computer isnt plugged in

the pc has overheated

I have the same proble like this before. I initially assumed by PSU had just died for whatever reason, however if I remove the 24 pin motherboard connector and do the paperclip test, my PSU's fan starts (although it does look a little slow; I'm not certain how fast it's meant to spin), Did you test test the psu, or just test different power cables of the psu?

Not really sure what u mean by test testing :P but all the psu cables are connected to the motherboard and most of my fans are connected to the motherboard aswell, not directly to the psu

That sounds like either a GPU or the mobo if it didn't beep, have you got on-board video?

Yes I have.. But i just got a new mobo today, installed it and alll the other stuff and the problem still exists :( tried using the built in graphicscard which didnt help either.. guess its the psu. Is there any way to check if its the psu that is broke or will i just have to buy a new one and try?

my guess would be the ram died , i had this problem, if you have 2 or more ram sticks i would suggest taking them out, and testing them one by one

I'm surprised that was it, in my experience the computer speaker will normally emit a beep on power up if something is wrong with the RAM.
