Well what are you going to use it for? If its mainly just for gaming, get a desktop hands down. Laptops don't perform as good as desktops and generally cost more if you want a good one. However, if you're in college or whatever and need some sort of portability, then yeah get a laptop. Mainly just depends on you.

Are you mainly focused in gameplay or would you like to use the computer for other purposes?

I am a 2nd year college student now and I never owned a laptop before and have been a huge PC gamer.  I was reluctant last summer to buy a laptop but I put in alot of money into it and I have a huge gaming beast (Dell XPS).  It will defintly cost you about 1k more than a desktop for the same specs, but the mobility, especially if your going to college is totally worth it.  If your not going to be moving it at least once a week, I would say stick with a desktop.  One major plus of getting a good laptop though is that if you dont already own an awesome plasma/lcd monitor, your laptop (if you get a good one) will have one that comes with the price.  My plasma 19' screen on this laptop is beautiful and great for gaming, but like I said your gona pay for it.

(just because I'm in a bad mood today, nothing personal) A laptop IS a computer. I'm sure you meant 'desktop or notebook'.

You're forgiven...

Translation: just because I feel like being a douche and can't do it offline because face punches hurt in real life

Jeeze. I read that and commented in my head about it... but we all understand what he means. If you don't have something nice to say... shut your face.

Back on topic. It all depends on what you want; if you absolutely need portability then I'd say get a laptop. I've seen some pretty sweet gaming laptops.... although the price is an issue, some of them are pretty huge, and have cooling issues.

PS I understand you don't have to speak to type things in forums, so don't call me on that one.

I agree with everything he said.

If you have enough money get a good laptop for gaming.

I agree.

Just remember that a laptop will often cost double what a PC costs, and that the better components you get the wider the price gap becomes.  In addition, laptops are extremely hard to upgrade: that 180 dollar upgrade you get for you PC to give it another 2-3 years of life just wont translate over to a laptop.

Also, laptops can easily be stolen.  I go to a college and you have no idea how often laptops get stolen here.  People will be at the library and then go to the bathroom for literally three minutes and when they come back....GONE!  No more laptop.

So in other words, unless you travel a lot for business or you physically need a laptop in class (programming class, etc), get a desktop.

why would you be dumb enough to leave your laptop unattended.  cripe you might as well walk up to someone and say oh here you go i don't really want this anymore.

if u want to have better graphic and hardwares in the system, a computer will be better.

it is much more cost effective and easier to control. imagine u have to conseize your fingers in a small keypad... not very wise..

They both computers ,anyway laptop can be held anywhere and i'ld recommand it  for you if u are in college or university .. and it doesnt support heavy applications processed together .. like games or ..ect   The destop cant be  held anywhere but it can handle lots of applications and mostly recommended for gamers. so it depend on ur uses.

I would get both.

For the price of a nice gaming laptop, you can buy a nice PC for gaming plus a second-hand laptop on ebay. Low-spec laptops on Ebay don't cost much, and yet you'll still have a portable computer to compliment your nice PC, and you won't worry about the laptop getting stolen/damaged/forgotten. Granted the cheap notebook won't be able to play the latest games, but you can play older games on it, and have internet, writing, movies, etc too. But the PC will be able to play all the best games. Also, 2 systems will give you better backup if one has a problem.

While a PC may not seem as 'cool' to you apparently, the advantages are. It's easier to upgrade, have better components, the ergonomics are better, it's easier to repair -the monitor (typically larger/better than a notebook) is separate. Being able to play all the games you want no sweat is a lot 'cooler' than what acomputer lookslike.

Good luck.

Well, I would rather prefer using a desktop computer rather than a laptop. But a laptop is more focused in work, and not gameplay. So if the different things is to carry information from one place to another, you have to present documents or something like this, I would prefer a laptop.

It mainly depends on what will you do with these computer (wether is desktop or laptop).

Desktop all the way man. You can buy so much more for so much less. Sure it's not as mobile but it's still mobile you just have to move your desk or your stuff to where you're going to be using it. Plus you going to hate yourself if you can't play the latest games because of a labtop that is outdated. Also labtops turned to wear out waaay faster than desktops. If something breaks on a desktop you can replace it for way less. In conclusion Desktops is the way to go. Check out posts in PC hardware forums and check out some of my posts. There I helped build a killer 1500$ dual core desktop. With 800$ you can build a good gaming rig as well.
