Unless you've got a seriously crippled processor, you should be able to handle the Lord of the Rings Online without breaking a sweat. If you want to make a worthwhile upgrade, you're going to have to ditch that AGP card, and most likely that RAM as well.

Just in case though, go here, select your game from the list, and see where you fall in the grand scheme of things.

I just scrapped my AGP system (P4 @ 3.6GHz, 1.5GB PC2700, X800GTO AGP). It was able to run LOTR:O on medium settings at 1680x1050 pretty well. My new system runs smooth as butter even in towns...tee hee.

Well, what are you current specs? And I don't really know much about Radeon Graphics cards, so I don't really know if the x800 is any good.

There is one way I can think of:  The ASRock Dual VSTA board. It supports AGP and PCI-e, as well as DDR and DDR2 RAM, which means you can make your transition slowly. It retails for around $60.

For the processor, the E4300 is a good way to go - don't be fooled by its low clockspeed, that thing is hugely more efficient with those clocks than any other processor model on the market.

Unfortunately for you, the move to Core 2 Duo is going to mean you'll need new RAM as well. Fortunately, 2GB prices are dropping quite a bit, so these sticks should do the trick. 2x1GB for $80 is hard to argue with.

So far, you've only spent around $250 - that leaves you plenty of money for a new case, hard drive, and operating system if you decide to get new ones (you'll probably need a new copy of your operating system anyway).

ok now say i have a 1200$ fund, but would only like to spend 1000$ of it, but now im looking at a entire comp that is smooth but with good graphics as well, this is also just purely a gaming ideal comp, not something for school, or video editing ok :) i appreciate all your guys help, last time i tried to do this by myself i really hurt myself by doing so... so i really appreciate the help

That depends - are you including a monitor with that budget, or just a box?

just a desktop comp, donest need a monitor, or necessarily speakers, or even keyboard or mouse, but the mouse and keyboard, if it comes with it and are nice are acceptable, but for the most part no monitor for sure, unless its in the package for free :)

Right - with $1k, you can get:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420

Gigabyte GA-NF650ISLI-DS4 motherboard

2x1GB G.Skill DDR2 800 RAM

320MB 8800GTS graphics card

Seagate 7200.10 250GB hard drive

Corsair HX520w power supply (enough for SLI later on down the line)

Cooler Master Centurion 5 case

Copy of Windows Vista

If you are planning to uppgrade to 4 gigs in the future vista will be a good idea (64 bit), as xp and vista 32 bit can only adress 4 gigs of ram, and they both lock it at 2.75 gigs of ram.Â
