Hey everyone when I play crysis my screen flickers and a blue screen pops up and then my computer restarts. I don't know what is causing the problem, i thought it could be overheating but i don't know any good programs to measure card temperatures. Crysis worked fine on this system when I played it a few months ago and now i'm replaying and it and this is really annoying. My specs: E7200 Core 2 Duo@ 2.52hz Nvdia 8800GS 2GB DDR2 Ram Windows XP 32Bit all help is appreciated thanks

It might be overheating. Try Realtemp for measuring temps. For your Graphics Card, um get I think it's Riva Turner? My card's ati so i have CCC

does your system restart while playing any other games? If not, then your system just might be getting too hot trying to run crysis as demanding as it is. First try lowering the ingame crysis settings and see if it still restarts, go from there.

Since it is a BSOD, it might not be overheating. I would try turning off the auto-restart so you actually have time to read what is on the blue screen. That may give you some useful information that could get you some specific troubleshooting suggestions.

Sounds like the new Fuzzy Wad Virus. You can fix it with a can of air :)

Most the time ive dealt with Blue Screen its been a ram problem. Try some new ram or taking out one of your two sets of ram.

Can also be driver issues, or another hardware issue. But in my experience with others computers and mine over the years its been messed up ram, replacing it helped.

Thanks for all the replies, the BSOD and restart happens only in Crysis, I updated all my drivers and I'm going to try using RAM from another computer to seeif that is the problem. Also how do i turn of auto restart on BSOD? thanks

Viruses don't cause Blue Screen and a restart. Most of the time it's either RAM, Hard Drive (bad sectors), or overheating. In your case it was probably your hard drive...and then you formatted it (long format I guess), it marked those sectors as dirty and didn't use them anymore...hence why it works fine now.

Buy a can of compressed air and clean the inside of your PC. If that doesn't help, it's probably your HDD.

Well i used a can of compressed air and there was a lot of dust in the fans, I played crysis for 2 hours and no problems. I guess it was overheating. Thanks for the help everyone

This. Just write the error code down and google it, chances are you'll find the culprit or at least get pointed at the right direction. Randomly trying to fix one is down to pure luck since it could be anything from a broken piece of hardware to overheating or a conflicting program or driver.

. The most common reason for a computer shutting down is because it is protecting your processor from heat damage.

so that's why all bios's have a temp peak shut down feature, and its usually 20 degrees below melting point. it seems to me that it for keeping it from getting damaged. also, the OP figured out the problem already, his fans were getting bogged down from dust.

YES it is true.... the mainboard has a fail safe device which makes it shut down if any component is overheating...be it the CPU, northbridge or southbridge. Video cards also have this fail safe. In response to "Jamez3y:, weird, cause the Intel Heatsink is usually more than enough, unless you are overclocking which isn't recommended anyway. I'm up to my 5th Intel CPU, and I've always used the default heatsink and never had a problem. It's recommended to regrease it every year.....

As many said, it's likely to be a hardware problem. I've experienced BSOD on 3 repeated - but predictable- occasions. Once was with a faulty RAM. It took me while to figure out, but the problem went away when I removed one of the RAM chips. The second time was with a head crash with a hard drive on my laptop. Windows wouldn't even start. I'm guessing that if, somehow, the sector where you installed crysis was to be scratched, or become corrupt for any reason, it would cause BSOD. The third time was with my graphics card. The fan stopped working, and whenever I required the graphics card to run at max power, (ie games, or effects for movies/TV) it would give me the blue screen. The GPU likely became overheated.
