I have been having difficulties starting my computer. Every time I push the power button the computer turns on but doesn't fully boot. The monitor stays off, there's no power light on the power button, and Im unable to turn it off with the power button, I have to use the main power switch in the back. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If the power light is off, then how do you know it's powering on at all?

Try removing all unnecessary components. Power on with only the following: motherboard cpu and cpu fan video card (unless your motherboard has integrated then use integrated) and fan one stick of ram psu Then see if it posts and you can get into the BIOS. Do you hear any beeps?

Mine was doing the same thing other day, turned it on, fans came on but nothing else and wouldn't turn off unless I hit the main power switch in the back. My problem was the motherboard itself..I've since replaced it with a new motherboard and everything's fine...I hope that isn't your problem, but your situation sounds so much like what I just had...

Try making sure everything that goes into a slot on the motherboard is firmly seated. Removing and putting the video card and memory back in might get you back in business. If you do this, start by removing the power cord and just take your time and try not to force anything into a slot - look and make sure it is lined up correctly before you apply too much pressure.

if its fans spinning up but nothing happens then somethign in your PC has gone poop. i had the exact same symptoms. in my case it was the GPU (RIP my 8800GTX) but it could be anything. unplug all unnecessary hardware (HDDs, disc drives, graphics card if your mobo has a built in GPU. if it still doesnt boot then its a case of swapping bits in and out until it does boot. its an easy fix if you have the spare hardware or a donor PC.....but if you dont then id advise taking it to a place where you can get the hardware swapped in and out...even if it costs a few quid. otherwise you could be just spending good money on replacing hardware thats not broken in the first place. sadly..i speak from experience :(.

It definitely sounds like the pc wont post. Before you do anything else, reset your Bios on your motherboard. You can do this a couple different ways, either by jumping together the bios reset pins, removing the battery, or if your lucky, hold down the reset button if your motherboard has one. If resetting the bios doesnt resolve the issue, then you have a hardware failure somewhere and will have to track it down 1 device at a time. Good Luck.
