Okay so far i''ve made new threads but they've all been locked so i guess im gonna stick to this one so i might as well edit this post.

i'm sorry if im repeating things but as you can imagine im feeling so bad right now its not even funny... Joshua i'll try and explain in detail but if theres anything, i mean anything you need to know tell me and i;ll find out.. Okay it was working perfectly till i download 2moons, found a trojan got rid of it with Avg, after about 5 scans of just cookies there was nothing anymore. I tried to download Runes of Magic overnight i come home from school and find the download stopped at 1.4gb and all the temps were fine. I try it again the next night come home and it stopped 9 minutes short at 3.8/3.804Gb or something like that.. So itried to download Crysis Patch+ fear this time and when i come home and i find the computer off.So next day try todownload onlythe Crysis Patch(from ea download manager)I turn on the computer and it wouldn't turn on. Somehow it started after 10 minutes i looked inside the case, cpu fan and Gpu fan weren't runing i didn;t know what was going on. I tried to tighten every possible cord in there, and i took out the heatsink and saw paste and that the cpu looked fine and not burned. And there was no funny smell. I put it on and the Pushpins were driving me crazy ( not sure if i installed it correctly). I turn on the computer and i find 2 red lights on the Gpu and my motherboard lights that are usually on has like 4-6 different ones with diff colors red, green, yellow idk what else were off.. Turned it off immediatly, tighetn the psu cord to it and turn it on and everything is running ( with all the lights on the motherboard). I look at temps and The Gpu is stable and all of a sudden the Cpu jumped to about 68C or something like that and it was at startup. I immediatly Turned off the computer And now im waitting for responses on what to do. My specs are Gigabyte P45,Wd 320gb Harddrive, 4gb Corsair XMs2, Intell Q9400(stock fan), Xfx hd4890, Corsair 750TxPSUand CM690. IF you guYS nEeD ANY INFO JUST ASK AND I WILL FIND OUT.

Edit #1 : Here are some pics i got on my last boot up - http://img4.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=p1010309m.jpg.. I also added some ino to my story. That's everything that happened and im 95% sure thats the order i might of screwed up the order of something since this has happened over the last 4-5 days,

Edit #2: Forgot to say i also replugged the video card after taking out. ( This happened right before i reinstalled the heatsink the second time.

EDIT #3. I forgot to say something tht happend. Idon't remember i think this was when the comp wouldn't turn on and i oppened it up. I tighteed something and all of a sudden in a couple secs i see the psu fan and the blue led front fan(and liht up)move about 720 degrees and stop andrepeat till i unplugged the psu i think it was. Also added my psu and my case.( not to confuse anyone i meant add them to my specs above). On the day i tried downloading the Crysis Patch i also got a Windows Update trying to install a Malicious Removal Tool and i installed it.

Could be power inconsistencies, Windows update might be restarting, power supply could be bad, computer uses hibernation/sleep mode

You pressed the power button in your sleep?

Maybe power fluctuations or overheating?

My guess is you get nnoyed with it's fans and turn it off in your sleep or just kick it by accident?

Maybe power saving options?

check the power saver options in vista, when the computer is set to sleep or turn off power. Maybe somebody else shut it down.

what was hanging from your card, but make sure the card is fully seated especially towards the back of the motherboard, this is where I had to apply just a little more pressure to get mine in.

don't download a thing its all junk, just run your games I never had any of that stuff and I never got one single virus or crash. Uninstall everything and anything you don't need and set your browser to block all pop ups all the time. Thats it.

It sounds like it's just shutting off randomly. The prime suspect in my opinion is the power supply. Which one do you have? If you can, swap it out for another and see if the problem persists.

I have reset the video card. I also got some temps i think it might be the cpu not sure. The fan is working though cuz it was moving. I have a Corsair 750TX., how do i know if thats the problem? I turned on my computer on came the motherboard lights but no video card lights ( which was the normal way for me) so it looked fine i got temps and shut it off cuz i was scared of doing something. I took off the fan and check to see if the cpu was fried but it didn't look like it was nor smelled so im guessing its fine, http://img4.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=p1010309m.jpg

thats way too high if its 60c and its only been on a minute. if I was you I would try removing the cpu cooler and reinstalling the cpu cooler again. maybe it isn't on right. but thats way too high temperature seems to me. mine only reaches 33c after gaming for hours, if it gets that high.

Try making sure the 20 + 4 pin on your motherboard is in properly. Try checking all of your cables.

It sounds to me that your cpu is getting to hot, possibly the heatsink is not attached properly, you should not be getting temps of 60c at idle they should be closer to 30c. Be carefull using a meter on your psu you have to do it with the power turned on and if your not carefull you could cause more damage then good since you basicly have to test it while the computer is running... when checking the connections and stuff inside the computer make sure you have it unpluged before doing this because of static electricity could short something out,, I am not an expert at this but I would think that if you are getting it to boot up at all then the motherboard and cpu would not be bad,

Ok i think i figured out why but im not sure. I turned on the coputer and saw the Cpu jump from 64 to 66 to 77 so i quicly shut it off. i open my computer and try to re-install the heatsink wondering why one piece wouldn't go in ( I spent about an hour on my first time trying to get it in) i think i realized why. One of the pushpins was kinda messed up. In the picture here http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/5692/pushpint.jpg One of the white was kind of bendiing making a 90degree angle except without the hypotenuse if you know whast i mean. I tried to discribe it here as well as in the picture.. Now this explains why my cpu was jumpin but idk if it explains my old shutting down. I never experienced the shut downs( as in i was asleep) myself exccept once and i never was monitering the cpu temp. Now here's the problem. When i started monitering it was after i "re-installed it" So im thinking it was then when i broke it and that this has nothing to do with the turning off. Although it might just have been a coincidence itmight of been broken from day one since i had such a hard time installing it although i have a hard time believing it because the first 4 days of playing on it, i checked temps and they were fine in the 42Cish area...So idk. Now would i beable to return this? or no? And if so does that mean i have to return the cpu? if so doe that mean anything gets erase from mycomputer?

I was going to say, it's probably the heatsink fan not being installed properly. Remember to use ArctiClean when reseating the heatsink fan on to the processor - and you can get new pushpins from anywhere, really. They're pretty cheap.

This stuff? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100010&Tpk=arctclean . And that means i need to buy new thermal compound so im guessing Artic Silver or w.e its called. And how much do pushpins cost? Cuz i was thinking of getting a new fan the Artic Freezer 7 Pro or w.e... If i were to return it and i change the cpu does that mean that i lose any data?

And i want to know how to find out if its the psu ( I have a multimeter) because im not going to dish out cash and find out that it wasn't the problem.. I would just get pissed and so would my parents... And i was thinking of just putting the part of the pushpin out of shape back into it and voila...Then i can see if it was the problem or not :P

Are they plastic pushpins? 'Cause if so, they'll probably snap if you try to remove them. If you're going for a new heatsink fan, I'd swear by the Titan Fenrir - that thing is ridiculous! As for the PSU, I wouldn't recommend opening it up - test it in another computer (if you have one), or RMA it and let some techies have a look for you. As far as I can see though, your temp problems look like they're coming from your heatsink fan not being installed correctly, or there not being a nice spread of Arctic Silver 5 between the processor and the heatsink fan.

here is an artical about using the multimeter with some pictures, http://www.devhardware.com/forums/power-supply-units-98/what-s-a-multimeter-how-to-use-it-to-test-75111.html I would be more inclined to say it is your heatsink/fan not being installed correctly, you should just be able to RMA that part of it without having to return the cpu,, and if you do have to return the cpu with it, NO you will not loose any data...

it does not look like anything is wrong by the pictures, but you cant really tell by pictures if your cpu is damaged or not, just try to keep your temps under about 64c while under load running prime95

They probably locked it cause you used all capitals in your subject. They seem to get pretty upset at that. At least that is the only reason I see. I'm glad you got it fixed, continued luck.
