I'd like to hear some thoughts on the HD 2900 XT.

After looking at some more reviews, I'm prepared to say that the 2900 XT is stronger than the 8800GTX. I know I may sound fanboyish, but once DAAMiT roll out some better drivers, and DX10 start getting pumped out, the 2900 XT will really shine. I mean, what other card can do 24x AA? Plus, that tesilation technique looks pretty neat too.

But damn it seems like a hot running card. I might wait for the 65nm version.

i wouldn't say beat outright, but closely matching the 8800 gtx and the ultra, drivers could DEFINITELY do some work here, obviously.

to add, if I was in the market for a new card, given the chance for the AMD drivers to mature, its hard not to jump for the HD 2900 XT, but those with the 8800 gts and 8800 gtx need not apply to jump ship for this card frankly.

I'll be waiting for the $300 65nm card, no reason for me not to since I'm also waiting for Penryn/Phenom numbers.

The 2900xt is definitely a contender at it's price point and I will be very surprised if it's price/performance doesn't increase steadily in the coming month or two. I mean the 8.38 drivers, official on the 22nd, offer a 30% increase in performance in certain apps, mainly for AA and HDR situations.

While the fan seems to be not the best, I have a feeling the Sapphire 3 heatpipe cooler will have better performance. The power is a little high but if they get this thing nipping at the heels of the GTX, it won't matter too much.

That's the R650 refresh right? Are you definite on that price point, that looks awefully tempting..... yeah most reviews are running on the 8.36-8.37, have yet to see the retail drivers in action, though the 8.39 beta drivers are supposedly leaked... hmmm....

I have heard nothing about an 8.39 driver, the 8.38 is the most recent beta/leak that I know of.

Yeah, I think the NDA was lifted just today.

Hey, EC, are you sure that the R650 only costs that much? Also, will that be compatible with the current R600 for CrossFire?

I might pick up the 80nm version now, and the 65nm version later... :D Just need a good CrossFire mobo.

bad card, horrible PCB, shame on you AMD. even if it performed better than 8800GTS, i wouldnt buy it alone for its power draw and noise. its X1800 all over again.
