its really up to your pocket and room space. those screens have a really high native resolution, you must get a really good gpu.

I would recommend against a huge TV if your machine is also for lots of day-to-day tasks. I personally find it a bit tiresome to read alot of text on big TVs. A monitoris better suited for that. If your machine is largely for playing gamesand movies though, then a big TV will be perfectly fine.

Go with the monitor. You don't want to work off a TV, and the screen from a 27 inch monitor will look bigger sitting 2 feet away than a 42 inch screen will sitting 7 feet away.

Go with a monitor. Chances are you'll have better refresh rates and a higher resolution. Granted I said chances are...Also, you're going to be up close I would assume. A massive screen just doesn't make sense for computing. Well, unless you're going all wireless and you'll be sitting far away?

Well i think the pc i'm making is pretty powerful, Here are the specs.

intel i7 2600k 3.4 GHZ

Asus p8z68

Msi GTX 580 Twin Frozr II

G-skill sniper (2*4GB)

I don't have an issue with space, Though i have read about there being Input lag on big HDTV's which i'm apprehensive about. Also i only intend to use it to play games and movies. Not work on it or anything. Also i've read that 32 inch TV's are also good but i'm just not sure.

Iv'e just started using my 32in Samsung HDTV as a monitor and blimey it looks good,I have no input lag and to me I find it easier to play games on it as I can see other players(My kills have gone up on BF3 since using it), Granted I have a small 19in monitor so a 27in would be better than that!

27" monitor.

You don't want to read text of a tv, it often looks blurry and nasty.

depends when your pc will be. If you are gonna put it in your living room go HDTV If its gonna stay on your office then go with monitor cause anything bigger than 27" 1-2feet in front of you will give you alot of troubles

I have been using s 40" Samsung LCD HDTV as my monitor for over a year now. It was not purchased originally for that reason but it came with a living room set that we purchased from the furniture store. I have had absolutely no issues with lag or words being blurred at all. You do have to make some adjustments in Windows if you are going to do emails, read web pages, etc. but it is simple and looks great. That all being said, I may be looking at the new Asus VG278H for a nice 3D monoitor here very soon. Either way you can't go wrong with an HDTV as your monitor if you invest in a decent brand.

Better off budgeting for a smaller cheaper monitor then add in the tv, thats what Im doing. I think thats a better experience since 27 inch monitors are kind of pricey, at least the good ones are. You will always have the urge to sitback to a good movie or racing game/sim etc with just a monitor your stuck sitting up close while with just a big tv than is not very practical for surfing web or even computer fps (your eye has to travel a lot more to spot an enemy).

edit: Tv tends to have bad text either too blurry and overly sharp with an overbite on letters. Thus your going to adjust your sharpness than itll maybe be viewable but that would destroy picture quality when you just watch the tv.

Personally I prefer a nice 27 incher. Monitors just have a much cleaner image imo. You'll always have more input lag on a TV as well, whether or not you notice it is a different story.

Big flat screens used as primary PC monitors look so goofy. The only thing I'd choose big TV over normal monitor for, are racing games, everything else just looks and feels clumsy.

Is there a visual difference in games when using VGA cables or HDMI?

I find oddly enough using HDMI it looks a bit 'washy' but using VGA is just like using a normal monitor, The text is sharp and colours are nice and vibrant.

there's a setting on nvidia cards in the control panel the let's switch between video mode and desktop mode. This adjusts the blurryiness for text on websites and such and in video mode it uses ur tv settings for colors making videos and games look vibrant and overall better! I myself use a 52" and couldn't be more happier! Also use hdmi for hdtv u loose some resolutions with vga
