Connect PS3 to home theatre for surround sound

My PS3 is connected to my tv via component cables. I have a 5.1 home theatre system. To get surround sound on my ps3, should I connect it to the receiver using an optical audio cable?

Yep, that or HDMI if you receiver can recieve audio through HDMI.

if you are watching blu-rays and have a decent set up make sure you use HDMI so you can get the HD audio codexes...
