We need to know the graphics card and what processor it is. Clock speed doesn't really mean that much today.

Geez 9700 pro.... he really does give you teh olds lol well lets see here World in Conflict, Gears of War, Bioshock, Company of Heroes WiC: Possibly? It is very well optimized, but you will play on Low. (low looks great still) If you can get 1 gig of ram, Its very cheap for how much of a booost it gives you. Gears: no Bio: Prob not CoH: yes on low.

That is an old card and all those games are demanding. Coh might play on Low. Gears...heeeeeeeeell no. Bioshock all signs post to no. World in conflict, maybe but dont fire the nuke your card will burn.

You can play World in Conflict and Company of Heroes. They are strategies and don't require big frame rates. They both have included bencharks, so find a nice looks vs performance compromise using them.

And you can play BioShock on a shader 2 card like yours, check this out:

Theyre all awesome games but youre in need of a serious upgrade.

If you havent got a huge budget, there are some decent Nvidia cards out there, Ive got a 7900GTX and can play gears on somewhere near max, but im on XP with DX9.

RAM upgrade is a must, even if its only to 1.5GB.

Consider upgrading the processor as well, especially if it isnt dual core (dual cores are cheap as hell now - Id say quad core is a bit unecessary atm).

You should completely forget about playing new games. Your PS3 costs four times more than that PC.

And I doubt he/she will be able to ugrade everything needed. The old motherboard probably has an old CPU socket like 478 which no new processor has. Secondly I'm 99% sure it only has an AGP slot. Well, there's some ok AGP cards, but there's no point in upgrading the card without upgrading rest too. That would mean buying a completely new PC.

I recommend to stick to old classics. RPG's like Fallout, Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment are still fantastic. Of course there's newer games too, that you can play, but everyone should play those three franchises imo :)

Just because you can't play the newest games, it doesn't mean you can't play the best games. How many PC games have you played before? You have 15 years of catching up to do.
