This is the best forum I felt for this topic, so here goes...

I'm looking for the best way to connect my PS2 to my monitor. Something that has minimal lag, good resolution in full screen mode, and leaves me with the ability to switch between my console and my PC without having to change my monitor connections between them. I'm using an HP LCD monitor with 2 parallel ports and an audio port.

I've tried to look up the info on this sort of thing myself, but every post I read about them talks brands names and uses a lot of terms I don't really understand... so keeping it simple would be extremely helpful!!

dont recomend, i was using my ps3 with a HP w22. monitors have good image only in their native resolution. as console games resoltion may be different form game to game, you could experience eye pain. washed images and so on.... plasma TV is the BEST for CONSOLES!

No no no no, ps2 displays mostly at 720x480, it would look insanely terrible on a desktop lcd. I have one of those boxes than convert from rca to vga, they don't help the quality, it works to connect, but it looks absolutely terrible.

the pixels on a monitor are about half the size of the ones on a TV making probably a really poor image. unless you have a HD console such as a PS3 or xbox 360 it wouldn't be a good image at all.

but what ports do you have in the back of your monitor?

blue one=VGA

white one=DVI

small trapazoid one=HDMI

I've read something about converting one signal type to another with one of those boxes or something, so I don't really understand why you can't make it look decent. And couldn't I just change the resolution on my monitor so that it shows up properly? Moab - I just checked my monitor again, it has a white port, and a smaller blue one.

you would need something like this

http://img.alibaba.com/photo/200096219/VGA_to_S_Video_AV_RCA_TV_Converter_Cable_Adapter_with_2_Audio_cable.jpg

idk where to get one but thats what it would look like. also idk if VGA carries audio but if not you will need a converter from L & R audio to audio jack.

hahahahaah sorry i had to do that! :p it was my first Rick Roll :)

But if I used that connector, wouldn't I have to switch my connections manually every time i went between the PC and the PS2? I thought there was some kinda box or something I could use that would allow me to run my PC and PS2 through to switch between the two by like a switch on the box or something.

Edit: Wouldn't something like this (http://www.amazon.com/Arsenal-Multi-purpose-Conversion-Controller-Xbox-360/dp/B0006B522Y) be the best way to go for what I'm looking for?

YES USE VGA BOX (GOOGLE IT) CONNECT YOUR PS2 TO THE VGA-BOX WITH THE STANDARD PS2 CABLES THEN CONNECT THE VGA BOX TO YOUR MONITOR WITH THE NORMAL VGA(BLUE) CABLE.

THE CONNECT YOUR PC TO YOUR MONITOR WITH DVI CABLE(YELLOW) AND YOUR ARE FINISHED.

IM SURE YOUR MONITOR HAS A SOURCE BUTTON, JUST TAP IT TO CHANGE FROM PC TO CONSOLE.

I think this monitor could work

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236067

its a 21.5 inch, has HDMI, HDCP ready, correct aspect ratio, 1080p as native resolution, 720p compatible,

normal pc monitor wouldn't work cause different screen ratio, 22 inch native resolution is 1900x 1200 instead of 1920 x 1080 which means it possiblely wont work or will have stretched picture.

correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit, nvm, just saw you had a ps2, not a ps3, my bad
