With a console you can simply 'consume' entertainment, but with a PC you can make your own entertainment (and a lot more besides).
Consoles are simply becoming modern-age 'media centres', like the music hi-fi systems of old, or TVs that came with built-in DVD players. Now you can get all these things in one device, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that as long as you still have a lot of choice, ie, you are not restricted by services only offering a narrow selection of content.
I don't see what all the fuss is about, really.
The only thing I would say is that if more games have to be installed on a console to get better 'quality' in the future - they seriously need to increase the hard drive capacity. On my PC, between my Steam folder and other non-Steam games I have installed at the moment, they take up approx. 250Gb.
They should be releasing consoles with 500Gb - 1 Tb drives if this is the way forward, especially if they increase the number of games/movies etc., available via their respective networks. Unless, of course, they all go down the 'streaming' route...oh joy.
