No, it's not nearly as responsive..you will notice a serious difference. I had a 360 long before i switched over to pc gaming..i purchased a 360 wired controller so i could use it as a gaming pad (had the same thing in mind as you). It really depends on the title..i love racing titles but i just can't do it w/ a mouse and keyboard, no matter how much people love playing TrackMania w/ just the arrow keys, i'll never be one of those. I like my thumb sticks. You will adjust, but it really depends on the title, some are designed for the 360 controller in mind ie: GTA IV. It works beautifully w/ the controller, i don't even bother w/ the keyboard and mouse when i play. Also, GRID works really well w/ the control pad. I wouldn't use it for stuff like CoD4 or UT3, but as i said, all depends on the title. Give it a shot, it might be better than you expected, but, don't expect the same experience as a console. Gotta remember, on a console it's all about the controller, on a pc, it's more oriented towards mouse and keyboard.

if the game is a gfw game and has native support of the x360 controller it will play just like a x360 game with a x360 controller, but non xbox controller are a pain to get to work

In everything the keyboard/mouse combo sucks use the gamepad(arcade driving games, sports games, platformers, arcade flying games, ect...). But for the love of god dont use it on things the K/M combo is supreme(fps, rts, rpgs). How good your gamepad will behave depends on the especific game, but even if its not as good as in a console its better than K/M combo.
