I'm finally moving away from guns. Can anyone reccomend any good sword games, preferably with cool finishing moves and 3rd person. RPG would be sweet.

Well, Dark Messiah isn't much of an RPG, and it isn't third-person, but it does have some awesome finishing moves and nice swordplay (and other weapons to use in melee).

Well, I'd recommend Mount&Blade. It doesn't have any finishing moves, and is not a graphically impressive game (compared to whatever) but it is a giant sandbox game, and the mounted combat, and swordplay/combat in general are great and very visceral. You can try out the game until level 6. After that, if you want to keep leveling, you have to buy it for $25 or so (and now that they have announced a retail/digital release for the game, the price will likely go up to $30 or more).

There is no multiplayer for it, but there are a TON of mods, levels, textures, addons etc for it. Some of which are amazingly good.

I have to disagree about the Witcher, the animations are cool but it is just a timed clickfest. Great game but I would not call it "swordplay". I would also say Dark Messiah has cool FPS melee combat. Melee, shield, kick, spells, bows. The only single player game I ever played through to the end twice.

Even though i love the witcher, i think the same about its combat. And yes dark messiah isnt an RPG, but it has the best swordplay i played, awesome.

My vote's for mount and blade as well, lesser known indie title but very addictive due to the sword play and mounted combat.

Blade of Darkness: Third person, cool swordplay, and with (very) light RPG elements. Oldie but goodie.

The Witcher is an option but if you are looking for smooth, fast paced and super cool swordplay you should try the Devil May Cry series

Mount and blade or Dark Messiah, they have better swordplay than the witcher by far.

Yeah that'd be it. I thought it was pretty damn amazing when it released. It had cool lighting effects and an intense and challenging combat mechanic. Plus you can't go wrong with the fact that you could cut your enemies arm off and then beat somebody to death with it.

I agree.. Mount and Blade is an awesome game, you can try it out.. you can play to level 8 for free which gives you a good test of the game and will leave you wanting more. Considering the full game is $30.20 (Aus) its very cheap for what you get. To much info to type about it, just check it out and you wont regret it.

Yeah, unfortunately I have not come across another PC game that does swordplay as well as Severance - blade of darkness. Which is a real shame as gun's are so freakin boring... Really wish some one would make a game like Severance with today's gaming engines. Suck's that a almost ten year old game, is still the only real option when it somes to swordplay on the PC.

You think a level 31 would know better than to necro a 2 and a half year old thread... Guess not.

Maybe people will throw garbage at me but... I've spent over 200 hours into Oblivion and I had a great time with it. The story is not the best but the gameplay is pretty cool. Also, you can play it 3rd person or 1st person (the 1st person is better but you can try 3rd person). I had so much fun with the side quests, especially with the Dark Bortherhood Guild (assassins) and the Thieves' Guild.

And well I think there's a bundle that includes Oblivion and Bioshock. So you don't like Oblivion and 3rd person RPGs, you can go back to FPS XD!

It may not be an RPG, and it may be kinda old, but Star Wars Jedi Knight Academy is the most fun I have had with any kind of sword play in a game.

EDIT: Just saw this topic is from 2008...

Mount and Blade: Warband is exactly what you want, no finishing moves though.

Also Dragon age for a true rpg, it has finishing moves.

WTF, thread resurection...
