i would like to know, the release of intel core i3, i5 and i7 cpu. dothey make core 2 duo cpu look outdated.

so people who bought core 2 duo should have bought the quad in the firstplace to futureproof their cpu. that's why on March ,09 i bought the phenom 9950 quad cpu rather than core 2 dual.

i got a quad from beginning instead of core 2 duo since quad cpu are now start to phase in also the addition of core i3, i5, and i7 start to replace core 2 duo for desktop.

i don't really care core 2 duo are optimized for games and apps more.

what do u guys think about this?

You should have gone with the core 2 duo. They are head over heels better than your first generation Phenom.

Well four cores are definitely better than two. Sure the C2D is better than the first gen phenoms, but Id take 4 cores over 2 anyday. You proc is pretty weak, but it should be good for another year or two.

So what kind of 4 core processers would be acceptable? Im trying to build a pc now and was wondering which to get. I know 2cores are the standard now but i would rather have a 4core processor since most likely those will be the standard soon. What speed is decent for 4cores?

It's common knowledge that Core 2 Duos have been one of the best gaming processors since they came out. Only since the release of the Phenom II (clock for clock equal and cheaper than Core 2) has the Core 2 Duo become a bad investment. I actually consider the first-gen Phenom to be one of the biggest underperformers ever. I think the reviews speak to that point. I'd take my E8400 over any first-gen Phenom for gaming, no question.. especially when you consider the utter lack of games in the last few years that really benefit from more than 2 cores. If I were building a machine TODAY, I'd use a Phenom II X4, no doubt. But at the time, the E8400 was the right choice for me, and it's still mowing through games. Great overclocking chip too.

Not a bad chip at all, especially when overclocked. The Athlon II's are a little bit slower clock-for-clock than the Phenom II's and Core 2 Duos/Quads. They are a very good bargain though, especially if you want a cheap CPU that will be good at multi-tasking and games that really like quads.

Your video card will be the limiting factor in this equation, not the Athlon II X4. You should be in decent shape.

Your video card is decent as long as you don't expect to max out alot of games. All I was saying is that the Athlon II X4 2.8ghz can be matched with a more powerful card and not be a bottleneck.

At that resolution, I have no doubt that you're right. You should be in good shape.
