I have a PentiumD 2ghzwith an 8800gt 512 and 2gbs of ram.I'm thinking of upgrading my processor now.My motherboard will only accept up to a core2 duo processor. My question is should I buy a fast core2 duo(and if so how long would it last me) or should I break down and buy a quad core with a new motherboard and possibly new ram if the ram I have now wont work?

core 2 duo's are certainly passed "future proof" however they still pack a punch if you want a common to find good preformance C2duo by all means get the e7400 (2.8ghz)

If you wanted to save about $30 and only lose about 0.13GHz you can pick up a Core 2 Duo E7500.

0.13GHz is NOT a big difference FYI, you won't even be able to notice it.

Only Core 2 Duo CPUs with a FSB of 1066 or less will work with his motherboard. That means no E8X00 CPUs. His options are E1X00, E3X00, E5X00, E6X00 and E7X00 CPUs.

in that case e7400-7600 would be his best bang for the buck.
